Books for 9 (almost 10) year old boy?

I am starting to think about Christmas, and always get my children a few books each.
But this year i am a bit stuck on what ones to get.

We have read:

Roald Dahl series
Beast Quest series

Any suggestions?

My eldest son is nearly 11 and an avid reader. Last Xmas my family bought him the book ranges of Michael Morpurgo and David Walliams, which he has really enjoyed. I think they got good deals on them through the Book People.

Jeremy Strong's books are a fun read.

Maybe worth considering starting him on the Harry Potter series, but that might be better for next year.
    Kate short for Bob.

The Horrid History range and some of Terry Pratchett's books are aimed at pre-teens.

If he is a good reader (only because they're quite tricky!) have you tried the "Artemis Fowl" series by Eoin Colfer.... Or the Alex Rider ones? (Sorry, having a moment and can't remember the Alex Rider author)....

If he finds reading a challenge, then Rob Childs writes fab football based books, at a range of levels, there's a few series of those!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - a series from Jeff Kinney. Genuinely laugh-out-loud stuff, series of seven books at present.

My 10yo enjoyed the Michael Morpurgo series and all the football series (can't remember the authors, but come up right away when putting children book football in amazon search). The problem is that even though these are his only areas of interest, they are much too easy for him to read. I bought him 8 of these football series book before going on holiday (about 200 pages each I believe) and he had read them all in 1 week despite an active holiday. He loves them, but it is costing me a fortune.

He doesn't like anything fantastic like most kids nowadays do. He hates Harry Porter, doesn't like detective stuff, or stories of boys doing funny things. I am at last what to get him! They don't seem to do football books for teenagers, only kids or adults.
