Google and/or Firefox still remembers my search history . . .

True, also opting out of google will not really help as a load of websites have google search boxes or use the google interface for their own search serviceDo people really believe that by opting out Google won't collect information thats their trade. You have to avoid using them altogether if you're concerned with privacy.0 -
Nope, it's no good. I've done everything, Firefox settings changed so it does not keep my history, I've cleared history, cookies and cache. I've changed Google 'signed in' settings and Google 'signed out' settings.
But still Google brings up historical searches of mine on the new scroll bar when I conudct an image search. Infuriating!!:mad:0 -
How do you know they're your past searches? Google brings up matches to what other people have searched for as well...

I disagree. I've just typed in a few things that I have never searched for previously into the Google box on FF and it doesn't bring up any matches, even if it's something that would have been searched for by many other people previously. [One caveat is that my broadband speed is even slower than usual at the moment, around 300 Kbps, so perhaps Google hasn't had time to look at what other people have searched for].
Hmm, curiouser and curiouser. I tried the same searches on another computer (also FF and Google, using the same broadband connection) and it did come up with matches to other search terms. Yet coming back to the original one definitely doesn't. So I'm guessing that I must have some difference in settings between the two computers, but what it is I don't know, as it's not something I've done deliberately.0 -
Just stop searching for muck and it will be fine.
Get it from railway sidings like everyone else.
Oh and don't get an android phone: When the location you seached for on your laptop appears as your destination on you navigation app, you'll have to get the tin foil hat out.0 -
Download and run the 'cleaner' option in CCleaner. Closed has posted a link to it above. I'd be surprised if that doesn't work.0

google can only track you if you log into it surely, which you don't have to do.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

They're definitely my past searches, no doubt about it. And no, it isn't muck thank you.
I'm completly flummoxed . . . tried everything.0 -

So assuming you have set 'never remember history', are you logged into google or any other live accounts? That's the only explanation I can think of.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
Either that or you search for what other people search for. Google uses very clever algorithms to autocomplete, given all manner of factors such as popularity of certain search terms, your geographic location as determined by IP, plenty more... There's a reason they get it "right" so often.0
