Google and/or Firefox still remembers my search history . . .

Google and/or Firefox still remembers my search history . . . despite my best efforts.

I'm determinted to work out how they do just so that I know, if I want to, I can have control. Despite my best efforts, and I've tried all the obvious things, but Google and/or Firefox still remembers my search history.

I notice it most on a search for images, Google produces a scroll bar at the top of the page results page with a short list of recent and/or similar searches.

Does anyone have any clue what is going on.

    It is called Cookies (http://www.aboutcookies.org/)
In firefox you can clear your browser history etc.

goto options and then privacy and then click clear your recent history and then you chose what you want cleared

You can do it if you have (or create) a google account.
    Details at https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/465?hl=en&ref_topic=3037039#turnoffwh

Easy enough to create an account if you don't have one and you can use a temporary email address if you don't want to use yours.
Alternatively, you could just block cookies for google in Firefox and delete what is already there.

Nope . . . there is something else going on. I've done both already but still it remembers. Any ideas anyone?

Shame this site does not allow me to post an image and I could show you what my settings are.

you can post images, just need to do it as a URL which can be done if you save the image then use a service like filesanywhere.com

I'm not quite sure whether you want to stop Google or Firefox remembering your history.

In FF you simply go to Tools > Options > Privacy and in the middle of the page there's an option of what you want FF to do re browsing history.

You may want to look at the FireFox Ghostery add on. Works with Chrome and maybe others too - http://www.ghostery.com/ this stops tracking cookies from being stored in the first place.

You could stop using Goggle and use another search engine such as ixquick.com that would stop Goggle stalking you.
  • Google keeps an entire history of everything you have search for.
Including all the !!!!!! you looked at.

    You can opt out here.

Do people really believe that by opting out Google won't collect information thats their trade. You have to avoid using them altogether if you're concerned with privacy.
