why would my x want copies of passports

Dear all,
A concerned lady has asked me that her x husband is asking for copies of children passports, apparently to show to estate agent. I personally have no idea why estate agent will need it as the children are living with mother.
Her x has dual nationality and is a devious person and compulsive liar. He may be up to some housing fraud, or may want to take children abroad, I cannot tell.
Any one with any ideas please help, many thanks.

  • I can't think of one good reason why supplying them would be a sensible idea without a really, REALLY plausible explanation. Given that he's devious and a liar I probably wouldn't believe any explanation given no matter how compelling.

I suspect that he probably needs them to acquire dual-nationality for the kids so he can get them out of the county easily. Is this a real risk according to your friend?

Just don't give the ex the children's passport details - simple!
There is absolutely no reason he needs them for any kind of housing information.

I'm so tired of seeing things like this, the guy was always like that he never changed, so why did your friend go with him and have a family in the 1st place?

Probably a clue in the devious nature, she may well not have realised until she had children with him. I'm not sure many people look at a person and think "Ooh, they seem nasty and manipulative...my ideal partner!"

Misled, suffering low self-esteem, make a few poor choices, etc..does it really help to criticise actions that now cannot be changed, surely giving some advice on the situation would be more helpful?

OP, could your friend speak to someone at her local police station about this? It may be some form of fraud they could look into, and having the police acknowledge it may put her mind at ease too.

No, and I agree, ex's are ex's regardless of gender, it adds little to start airing the dirt, I'm sure the friend is not perfect either, trouble with the original post is that it seems to be based on hearsay, which reads like there is a drama going on, and we only have one side of the story, as many of you ladies know, sometimes you be the hero for your friend and their ex and then after a time, you too become the enemy.
Yes it does seem odd to be asking for a copy of the passports for the estate agents, however I don't agree with the simple motives offered above and that is if it is indeed true.

You are all so right, it started with an abusive relationship and she kept hoping things will change after having her first baby. Relationship was in term oil all the time. She only changed her mind after he put her baby daughter in washing machine.

I have told her not to give him that copies of passports, but she fears the worst.

He put the child in the washing machine?!?!

If I was this lady I would not be in a position where he *could* ask me for anything, never mind passports!!
