I did something similar and they came up with the £30 insurance cover to cover damage by flat spotting the tyres. It all sounded convincing and who would I be to question that? So I ended up paying for it. Was a bit annoying as it was a present from my mum and if the price had been £30 more in the first place she'd have probably paid for it at the start.0

£20 sounds suspiciously cheap to me. We have a Ferrari and the insurance is very very high but - get this - we are not covered for track days. It's a separate charge for those events. 'Public' days are hugely expensive so we tend to go for the Ferrari owner only days (closed track). Like I said, £20 for a public track day sounds a bargain.0

Sent my original forum post to them 10/8/13 but got no reply

ooooops, terribly sorry about that. Can you tell me what time you sent it as I certainly have not seen it (actually I picked this e mail up in my trash for some reason).
xxxxx we weren’t operating yesterday, when did you mean and are you sure it was us?
I am going to write you a longer e mail on waivers shortly. To get their certificates, just give me their names and addresses, assuming it was us that did the drives!

Basically the answer to your question “surely we are covered” is no, we are not.
On the Disclaimer that everyone signs, we have various measures to put in the minds of all our drivers; that driving cars on a motor circuit is dangerous unless it is approached with the right frame of mind. A quick visit to you tube will confirm this!
We don’t know where the figure of £2m came from, (advised by their staff) but even a relatively light tap in one of our cars can easily render a bill of four or even five figures. We think that to reserve the right to get the guests to pay the first £2,000.00 of this is entirely reasonable and a very effective safety provision (because it will discourage reckless behaviour).
I hope this appeases you somewhat and if you know of an insurer who will cover 100 + unknown drivers to drive Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins on the fastest motor circuit in Europe, please let me know who they are!
With kind regards

They did not even ask to see my husband's driving licence or ask about his health etc.. this was his 70th birthday present!0 -
Where did the £2000 come from that he mentioned?
Personally that last paragraph came over quite patronising and not the most professional from a company director to a customer!0 -

Just reading over this thread, LIKE REALLY!!
Am I in a minority in agreeing with the director of this company?? Goodwood and half a million pounds worth of motor vehicles.
Surely you must go to the circuit thinking that this is a mad bargain and surely there will be some other small charge for insurance or similar?? If you had to pay another £50 then fair enough but £20 for an excess waiver - come on - that is a round of drinks nowadays.0 -

The issue is not being told up front about the option of paying for insurance.
The amount you pay is irrelevant. Just because £20 is not much for you. It may be for other people especially when you have a present bought for you.0
