Ferrari Driving Experience Gift Vouchers

Options
Husband and two friends went to Goodwood yesterday to redeem their birthday vouchers and had a thoroughly good time. However, on signing in they were each told they would have to pay an additional 20 pounds to cover insurance. Failing to do so, should they do any damage to the car or injure anyone on the track they could be liable for up to 2 million compensation. Naturally, they all paid up.

Don't get me wrong, they did enjoy their three circuits of the track, it is just that this additional payment soured the event. Surely if you are selling these vouchers you must be fully covered for every eventuality without charging additional insurance. They were not given any paperwork for this insurance.

Anyone else come across this?

they should make you aware of insurance options before hand.
  • I bought these for my boyfriend (although it was from Asda gift experiences) and it said about the cost of the insurance in the small print which I scoured before I bought it. it also had information about paying extra if you want to do it on a weekend etc. maybe you just missed it?

On the asda site, it's not glaringly obvious but it does say you have the option to buy collision damage waiver, but its not obligatory.thats your answer I expect.
  • Thank you all for your input.

Obviously these vouchers were bought by their friends, so can't check the original paperwork. However, have looked at the website and no mention of needing extra insurance. The t&cs with the voucher do not mention it either.

I have actually emailed them today and will let you know what they say. It just seems when you genuinely buy someone a present you don't expect them to have to pay extra. We have a friend who was recently made redundant and seriously considered buying them the same gift to cheer them up. But in the circumstances this would have been very embarrassing for it to happen to them.

But as I said, the collision damaged waiver was optional. They didn't have to buy it so in theory they don't have to mention.

We went to Blyton Park with 6th Gear and they have a similar £25 collision damage waiver. I did think it sharp practice.

When they say you do not have to buy it.
They can often give a hard sell of telling you why you should have it.
Saying you may owe thousands in damages etc.

Its more the website does not even mention it, or even hint about it.

Yes I agree with both posts, it does seem to be sharp practice and I think you could raise this issue with consumer direct.perhaps you could start another thread with a slightly different title, warning people.
