Just buy a few of these and some digital room thermometers. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4152181.htm
Put one of each in each room and adjust the thermostat until the thermometer reads 18. Job done.
Electricity is not bad as a heating source when used sensibly.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
The System Cost £5737. This was for 4 Large panels, 2 small panels and the control panel. When the panels were delivered the fitters fitted 5 large ones and 2 small ones!! (I don't intend paying for the extra one as I never requested it). I paid an initial deposit of £1721 and a further payment of £1721 after the survey. Leaving a last payment of £2295. When I complained about the delay in supplying the equipment, I asked to be compensated for the upset and inconvenience caused together with a payment towards my fuel bill as I was not having the advantage of "Cheap" heating as promised. They allowed me a reduction of £1292 leaving an outstanding balance of £1000 which I have now withheld until I am happy with the system. They were supposed to be coming yesterday to sort out the problems and supply the outstanding PCB, but never arrived at the time arranged. Having contacted them again this morning I was told that the fitters will "Possibly" be in my area next week again, they would phone me later and arrange a date! Needless to say I have not heard anything so far and it is now nearly midnight!!
It must be costing them a fortune as I live in North Wales and the fitters travel from either Manchester or Huddersfield every time! Still that is not my problem! Don't know how long "OPTIMA ENERGY" can survive with service like this!0 -
Shall I talk about what infrared heating is, and why it is used in industrial units and factories? It produces heat like that from the sun - it penetrates your clothes and touches your skin and so when you are in it's glare you feel OK in a freezing warehouse putting stuff in boxes. It is economical in the sense that you're not trying to heat the whole draughty warehouse. Which would be pointless as the loading doors are open. It heats your skin when you are within it's rays.
If you want to heat your home cheaply with electricity then buy an air source heat pump.I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
Had a 'phone call (unsolicited) earlier today from Energy Saving Solutions - asked them to call back as I was busy, but no call yet. I was told I could expect savings of 70% on my heating bills, but having read the posts I doubt that claim.
With any form of direct electrical heating, 1 kWh of electricity will produce the same amount of heat, whether it's a traditional electric fire or a fancy and expensive 'erad' radiator. (To get more heat out, a heat pump is needed, which works in reverse manner to a refrigerator, extracting heat from outside air, or from the ground.)
I'm dismayed by the cost of a 4-panel system (in excess of £5000) quoted by one correspondent. You could get a new gas central heating system, with a fuel-efficient condensing gas boiler, for less than that, and running costs would be far less.
How do we prevent companies like this conning the public with such unrealistic claims?0 -
I have had my E-Rad system installed now for about two months. It took a long time to get things sorted!! I am not convinced that I am saving money!!I won't really know until my electricity bill comes in. I don't think the system is working as it should be as at least one heater rarely gets warm whilst another is forever cutting in and out. I know that when I request someone to come and sort it that they will appear unannounced, probably when I am not at home and will have had to travel to me in North Wales from somewhere over the Penines!!0

I would be very surprised if you are making a saving, but I hope you are. Good Luck!0 -

If they can afford to discount the quote 22% just for your 'inconvenience', then clearly the profit margin they have still made is such that they're not really bothered if you pay the £1,000 balance or not-have you? The mark up on these devices is probably well in excess of 2000%.
You won't save any electricity with these, since they are the same efficiency (100%) as a £20 convector from B&Q. A 2kW electric heater is a 2kW electric heater, however you dress it up.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
