Help with Jobseeker Allowance reconsideration after four week disallowance applied

Basically, I attended the Jobcentre on the 6th August to sign on, when it came to my turn the lady handed me a piece of paper and I was told to go and see a 'lead advisor' on the above floor to get, I quote more 'help and support'.

When I got to see the 'lead advisor' it became quickly apparent they wanted me to prove that id applied for the seven vacancies indicated in my looking for work book.

Unfortunately for me I'd only got proof for two saved.

Now, at the meeting I also stipulated that id applied for nine jobs via gumtree that I'd not written in my looking for work book, at the time I couldnt prove it.

I've now got black and white proof from gumtree in the shape of two emails confirming I'd applied for the stipulated nine jobs.

My question is this, as the nine jobs jobs were not originally stipulated in my looking for work book can I use the evidence of these in my reconsideration ?.

I've been disallowed four weeks money.

It's a record of your Job Search, it's a record of your actions & steps, it's not just for job applications.

    By definition it's not proof.

A doubt has been raised, but you can appeal.

They are trying to stitch you up to raise doubts, to reach their sanction quota/targets.

Get your proof together & appeal.

The jobcentre are there to take money off you if possible.

You can't give them ANY excuse. They can sanction you for not writing down the correct amount of jobs. If you are looking for work, you should be filling out at least 20 jobs per fortnight; you write down what you've done to LOOK for work, not just what you've applied for, so you can put 'looked on direct.gov, found nothing' and it counts.

You have to prove you've been LOOKING for work, not that you've APPLIED for jobs. This is extremely !!!!!! but i once got sanctioned for it when i signed on after dropping out of uni. Apparently applications do nothing to prove you've been looking for work according to them.

I used to look online three times per day. In the morning at about 11am to check the morning jobs, 2pm to look for the lunch time jobs and then a final job search after dinner. I averaged about 50 jobs per fortnight.
  • Thank you for your replies.

I was hoping someone from Jcp would be able to advise as I've received no written confirmation of the exact reason for the four week disallowance.

I've submitted a reconsideration on the premise I couldn't provide proof of application.

    Any ideas ?.

If I am applying for jobs on Gumtree I copy the link and the advert and do a screen shot of the advert too and email it to myself.

On gumtree you get no confirmation you have applied to any jobs UNLESS the email where it goes to has an 'out of office' reply attached to it saying 'thanks for your application' etc.

Other than emailing the company via the gumtree link asking for them to confirm you have applied there is nothing you can do.

On 99% of all other sites you set up an account and apply that way so you can log in up to 90 days after and prove to the JC you have applied.

I also copy and paste all links to myself in an email or all jobs I apply for.

To keep them happy just make sure you apply for any jobs whatever by using the ujm apply button. If your direction says 6 jobs then apply for 6 jobs.
Then take a screen shot of your ujm home page to prove you have applied.

Just keep them happy but never give them access to your account.

That would give them another sanction tool.

Be lucky if you can find 6 on there that that applications via the site. 99% of the jobs I search are all 3rd party adverts so you apply on another site totally.

well I have not account on there and no mention of any sanction for me - that's cause I apply for more than on my JSA and have all the backups if they want to have a look

  • I've today received three dwp letters from the benefit centre that handles my claim, two relate to the two fortnightly periods I've been disallowed for and the third states that I've asked them to look again at the decision to disallow and they have not changed their decision.

Does dwp automatically do a reconsideration then ?.

I submitted my own reconsideration on the 9th August at my local Jobcentre, will this be considered also ?.

The reconsideration you submitted via the JCP went to the decision maker, the decision maker notified the benfit centre of their decision they in turn notify you. So, they have reconsidered the decision and that original decision still stands.
