There is hope with dwp

My DLA claim was due to be re assessed in November this year, I was actually expecting to be told to claim the new PIP benefit.
However, the claim form came in for completion during the last week of July. I have been on DLA for around 9 years, and rather that get better I have got worse.
I have been dreading the possibility of having to have a medical and fearful after all the bad press.
Today, less than 2 weeks after sending in my claim, I got a letter increasing my medium care claim to high, and it being changed from every 3 years to indefinite.
So I thought that I would just say, that not everyone gets treated as the bad press has indicated. I couldn't believe how quick they dealt with my claim. So anyone who has just sent in their form, don't fret it may not be too bad for you

What's that got to do with claiming your State Pension?
You can still receive DLA AND claim your pension.

I will get my State Pension next June when I am 65 and my indefinite DLA (HRM & HRC) will continue until October 2015 when it will all cease.

If I was you I would make the best use of the money you will get until that date as it will be extremely unlikely that many will continue with PIP.

Oh my !!! Something tokenfield doesn't know.
Pip is only affecting claimants from 16-64. So claiming his state pension would mean the op was over 64.

Huh???? PIP does affect people over 65. If you were not 65 by the 8th April 2013 you WILL have to apply for PIP in 2015. I mention that as those that become 65 shortly after the 8th April 2013 will be in the first batch to be tested from October 2015.

Let us say that someone was 65 on the 10th April 2013, by the time October 2015 comes round they will be 67 and 6 months old.

So there will be those that have been claiming their State Pension for a good few years that will have to claim PIP when it starts in 2015.

It does make your comments total
  • I am actually only 58 at the moment, but I wasn't talking about my Old Age Pension, I was referring to my Occupational Pension, which the longer I wait to claim the better it will be.
My plan is that if I no longer get DLA or PIP then the pension will cover the shortfall of my income for losing the DLA.
It would be a lot of money to lose, plus I think my husband and I will be eligible for Pension Credit by then.
My post was to try and give a bit of positive news to those ready to claim, so it is a bit mean to put such a negative spin on things.

Please ignore the comments of tokenfield aka Andy, he is a well known troll with many previous user names.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Thank you for such a positive post op :)

We only see horror stories here so it's refreshing when someone posts something good.

Alas there are a few posters on this board who will post negative, off topic, hidden agenda crap, but for the most part people try to be be helpful.

I'm happy for you having such a positive outcome and sharing it with us :)
  • Glad everything went smoothly for you OP. The DLA system is pretty sound, reassessments in particular are dealt with swiftly and problems are rare. It is nice to have someone post when they get a positive outcome, as people usually only post when they have a problem.

To echo the words of others, ignore tokenfield. He is the forum troll, we humour him ;)

Likewise, if you are of the "Glass half empty" mindset, I would suggest that you do the same.
