Depending on the car, it could be a tenner from the local scrappy and a ten minute job.

Not if it is bonded, as many quarter lights are on modern cars.

Quite simple really. A stone thrown up from a vehicle in another lane (most likely an HGV). Quite simple really, and not that rare.

I,m guessing the screwdriver bit was flicked up by the HGV, smashed the window, on route to Mr BMW assists tyre.

Yes the window was broken by a stone and yes hard to believe. The OH went out on a Sunday morning to take the children to their swimming lessons and came back a couple of hours later with a broken window. He was back by 10.30am so unless he annoyed the swimming teacher I'm not sure who else would have broken it. He I don't suppose there were many HGVs on the road but he does have a habit of driving in the gutter and it was on a 70mph road.

Have you checked your insurance to see what the glass excess is?

No I haven't. I claimed about 4 years ago. what i didn't bank on was the increase in premiums because !t was windscreen replacement not repair.
  • Thanks Gaz but the children were in the car when it broke and relayed the story to me.
