It's not particularly unhealthy, though, and sustained weightloss through proper VCLDs is not less achieved than Weight Watchers and so forth.
From their website
''Our nutritionally balanced programmes range from 440kcal to 1500+kcal per day''
As some one who has to live on Vlcm diets often, the black and white approach frustrates me.
Also, I was told a new thing from a doctor recently I have been unable to research as yet. His opinion was that contrary to popular thought basal metal rate plateaus then drops I think he might have said a statistical average bmi of 36 ish .0 -
I swear I am the size I am because I have dieted!
Having a background education in domestic science, I've always believed in healthy, balanced meals, cooking from scratch. I've understood nutrition - but it changes nothing.
In 1977 age 33 height 5ft 6in, I weighed in at 10 stone after No 4 baby was born; after previous 3 I'd dropped to 9st 7lb within three months. In 1977, I didn't so, went on diet ....dropped to 9st 6lb after calorie counting diet after 6 months.
However, once I stopped dieting, my weight crept up to 11st .....so at the end of 1978 you found me on the F-plan diet ....dropped to 10st after about 8 months. But by 1980, weight was creeping up again to about 11st 4 or thereabouts - so another diet. Dropped down again to about 10 st 7lb ..then crept up again - another diet ....yada yada yada
Now, age (cough) 70 height 5ft 5in (gravity pulliing me down) - I weigh .......let's just say too much! I've followed so many diets and now I realise that it's not a case of dieting - it's a case of CHANGING the way I live completely - keep up the activity, keep down the food intake.
Let's face it - look at the people who have made a fortune from promoting diets - from Atkins to X-diets - they would make diddley-squit if they worked - we'd buy them once and that would be it - we wouldn't need another diet. They feed on our failure!0 -
What works for one might not work for another as we are all different!
I have always been able to 'eat what I wanted' and not put on weight. McDonalds here and there, chocolate, crisps, fizzy juice etc.
A year back I suddenly realised I was about 2.5 stone heavier than I am 'normally'. I did Cambridge, weight came off no problem. No exercise whatsoever. That was 7 months ago and weight is still coming off me without even trying!
What I learned was this:
- even though I was eating rubbish previously, I wasn't eating a LOT of rubbish, therefore my calories were still relatively low
- I put on weight because I ate in between meals
- Carbs are not my friend
My appetite has absolutely shrunk now. I still have treats if I want to, but I find I get fuller much more quickly. I know that if I am having a big meal out one night, to have an easy going day.
My body absolutely requires calories in to be less than calories out to lose weight. But, everyone is different!

I don't think many diet plans are all that effective. Most do very little to promote healthy eating habits for life. If they did far fewer folk would revert back to their old habits and pile the weight back on again. The diet industry relies on people yoyo dieting through much of their adult life.
A high protein and low carb diet alongside exercise that involves an intensive weights regime will enable you to lose weight quickly. Doing cardio exercises like swimming, running and cycling is effective, though a persons body transformation will be slower. Avoiding the mistake of over estimating how much you need to eat in order to fuel the exercise you do, or how many calories will be burnt up, aids maintaining a healthy weight. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
The best kind of diet I have found is no crisps, sweets, cakes and biscuits in the house diet. If you eat breakfast lunch and tea, in correct portions. Snacks limited to a piece of fruit. Then the weight will come off. Secret eaters currently on TV is a real eye opener.0
