Not told of changed flight time

Wondered if anyone could advise
We booked an easyjetflight on line, Man to Mykonos.
We received an email stating the return flight had been changed to a later time, this we accepted. No information was given concerning the outward flight.
We booked overnight accom. as it was a 0745 flight. When we arrived we were told it had been changed to 1350hrs -a delay of 6 hours.
We wrote to easyjet claiming our unnecessary overnight accom cost and refreshments, but despite apologies were told "as per our carriers regulations, passengers are not entitled for any extra expenses due to schedule change" and refused any reimbursement. They suggested we used our travel insurance and offered an insurance letter "free of charge".
Have we a case do you think?

The key to this will be finding how far in advance the schedule was changed and when they believe you notified you of this change
If the flight was changed less than 14 days in advance irrespective of if they advised you about it or not you should be able to claim delay compensation0 -

I am not a lawyer but I suggest to research if you can make a claim (maybe MCOL) for damages (Un-necessary out of pocket expenses) in them not telling you in advance of the later takeoff time. You may also have a 261 /2004 claim for late takeoff.
They will probably give you the "Push off", but they will have to prove they sent the email etc. If as you say you were abroad, it is not a lot of use sending an email and it sitting in your Inbox on your computer at home. It all depends how much you were out of pocket and if you want the satisfaction of possibly getting the better of them0
