you need to have strong words with them-when the shop is full of customers.

    Never works!

They'll most likely normal customers who have never had a problem and any screamer will just be seen as a loony.

If the shop is lucky enough to be full with brand new customers all the time 7 days a week the one off mad customer situation won't be a worry!

Screamer. Who was talking about screaming. What strikes me with this post is very little direct firm communication eg" you have lost my duvet, you need to compensate me, how are you going to do this?".
Assertive discussion is all that's needed.

true, even using the small claims process from moneyclaim.gov.uk would cost you £25 for the first step (you claim this back from who you sue) if this fails you can get a CCJ against them ( another £35, but you can claim back) but they ( who you sue) must admit they owe the money

They don't need to admit anything. Either they don't respond and judgement can be obtained by default or a judge decides.

When i used it a few years ago against a hosting client who failed to pay his hosting fees and become abusive when he was terminated. after they ignored the first part and i went to issue a CCJ they had to wait for them to admit they owed the invoice amount. as this what it stated when i filled in the CCJ part and paid the fee. two weeks later the CCJ was issued stated they admitted they owed the invoice amount.

of this is another case of MSE users knowing more about the law that the LAW itself.

The law doesn't require any party to "admit" to a claim. The legal process is there to decide whether a claim is valid or not, or is valid in part.

From what I've seen arcon5 is well aware of the law.

well they had to when i used the service anyone on MSE are not the law and cant think they are.

that is the problem with MSE users they think they are on a consumer forum so they know the law.

i suggest you look at this http://hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk/HMCTS/GetForm.do?court_forms_id=465

    then section B

    also https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/after-you-make-your-claim
How to take your claim to court

You may have to go to a court hearing if:
    • the person or business says they don’t owe you any money
If they admin to owing the money then you issue CCJ without a court hearing

A CCJ is a County Court Judgement.

    From Gov.uk:
If you get a judgment, this means that the court has formally decided that you owe the money.
The court makes that decision whether or not the defendant agrees.

To do otherwise would be farcical.
Can you imagine a judge saying "We are thinking about making a County Court Judgement against you. Is that ok?"
