SB88, congrats on your new home and also on your sensible attitude on kitting it out!
Multi-purpose buys are a must, my best recommendation on that score is Lidl stainless steel casserole pans, glass lids, are worth every penny, great for oven or hob - I`m a compulsive cookware buyer, have to look at the stuff in shops, and haven`t seen anything in supermarkets or Wilko`s anywhere near as good as those Lidl ones.Heavy bottoms, steel handles, and they clean up lovely even after being burnt. They disappear from Lidl and reappear every now & then. Got a couple for my daughter recently and she loves em too.
Car boots are another great source of cheap essentials - slow cookers, steamers, pyrex items. Enjoy the fun of hunting down what you want!0 -

I agree with this. I bought a cheap pan when I first moved to Holland. It only lasted a year, which is a false economy.
Although, it was all I could afford at the time and served its purpose.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Hello, congratulations on your new home! May I ask how much your budget is to furnish the property? Just curious as I'll be in that position next year (hopefully), but buying on my own so want to do it as cheaply as possible! Found a lovely sofa on ebay, well a 2 seater and a 3 seater, for £50!!! Bit silly to buy things of that size so far in advance but can't help but look ;0) xx0

Thakns for all the helpful advice!
It is the Gateshead metrocenter! I didn't realise we could use it in newcastle aswell!
I had a good look in TJhughs the other day, It was mostly all gone, all that was left was fairly expensive still and I didn't feel like waiting in a huge line of people! It was madness! Ha
Ms London- Hi! Well, this is as followed for how we are kitting it out
Couch: Free, my parents kept their old one, so we are having it, It's plain blue, and has a recliner chair with it, modern-ish design, only got a slight hole that can be patched from when our dog was a pup!
Tv: OH already has this
Tv unit: Vintage unit of my grandparents (currently stored at my parents) to be painted to match the deco
Beds: taking his because mine is to big(I'm downsizing from living with my parents, and there detached, 6 bedroom house to a semi-detached 2 bedroom ex colliery house, it's going to be a shock to my system I think!)
wardrobes/dresser bedroom set: free: my grandparents that they left at my parents house when they downsized and couldnt take it with them. (they used to live in my parents house and now my nan lives in a two bedroom house)
computers/computer desks: free already have them
kitchen appliances: OH dad bought us them!!!
Engagement gifts: towels, cutlery, dinner plates etc
All we really need to buy, is kitchenware, I have some cake tins, some tupperware, i've collected
So inc buying kitchenware, paint, carpets, small appliances, bathroom accessories, we're looking at a budget of about £600, we are VERY lucky that we have gotten so much help from our families and the things they've given us.

I forgot to mention that it is only one room that needs carpeting, because the rest is laminate. Not what I'd have chosen, BUT it is fine for now!Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)

I see your 1996 stainless pans and raise you 1984 stainless pans (Prestige) and they STILL look good! Outlasted 2 Mr. Valli's, they have! Oh - they're a doddle to clean, too!
sb88 - well done on your free pans...reading between the lines (so to speak) my pans ARE OLDER THAN YOU! :eek:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
