Buying from Currys

I bought a TV from Currys, it was a deal buy now and pay in six months. I decided to pay every month so that I was faced with a large amount when the six months were up.
My grievance is with Currys, I paid on line as was charged £3.00 every time I did this. I complained to Curry's and was told that this was handling administration charge. How this can be as the money goes direct to their account and there is no handling. I would never buy from Currys again on any deal. They also insisted that I pay 6.00 per month for a thing called Know How, I stopped this after a couple of months, this yet again another ruse to get money from unspecting customers. The instructions for setting up the TV were so easy, so why does Currys need the customer to buy these stupid things, it's so they can give salesperson money for selling items, and we the customer don't understand. This is another form of PPI and I wonder many other people have fallen for this.....

Why didn't you just put the monthly payment into a savings account and pay the lot at the end of the 6 months Intetrest free period?
Extras such as KnowHow can be declined at point of sale. If they were added without your knowledge then you have a case for mis-selling-did you check your receipt?
Next time chose a proper retailer such as Richer Sounds.

    As see it:-
    1. It does cost the retailer to have to apply the payment to your account - whether this is £3 or not is debatable, but I'm sure it was somewhere in the T&Cs?
    2. As above, if Knowhow was added without your knowledge, then complain to Currrys, but it's common practice with all retailers nowadays with margins being cut etc. I was buying an item in Poundland last week and was offered a special deal on Crunchies or something (funnily enough they were a £1 I think...) It may be annoying but all sorts of shops have been boosting their profits this way for years - if you're happy with the deal otherwise, a simple 'no thanks' to the extras is all that's needed - sorry, no sympathy from me on this one.

If you can get some money knocked off in exchange for taking out knowhow, do so. Wait a week for the paperwork to come though and cancel under the 45 day cooling-off period.

Depends on the time of month, item being purchased and if the salesperson has hit their targets for selling warranties.
  • Creation handle the credit facilities for Currys. Your gripe is with Creation, not Currys.
    Debt on 1st August 2013 - £9842.03

I'm sure it was in the small print.

I bought something a few years ago on 12 months IFC.

Time came to pay it off & I realised there was a £25 'early repayment charge'. Needless to say I won't be using it again.
  • Well I've learnt my lesson with Currys/PC world after they miss sold infinity to me. Nether again will I or my family buy from there.

I will only use it try things out before I foot John Lewis!

£25 if you pay the day before, £0 if you pay on the day, £lots if you pay late as you get 12 months worth of interest added. Cheeky
