  • Wow well done it was worth fussing about the delay.

Our mortgage adviser has asked me to get my solicitor to complain about the delay to my mortgage lender so if she does hopefully it mIght speed it up a little. :)

Colleys are "panelling" stuff out if they can't do it.

DRP - Andersons will be doing both. Up to you if you want to try to change it.

  • We used Colleys for a Halifax valuation survey (which we had no choice about) and homebuyers report (which we did). We were made to wait 6 weeks from payment to the survey being undertaken and a further 10 days to receive the report. The surveyor failed to contact us prior to going and so we were unable to raise specific concerns that we had (despite attempts by us to speak with them), did not bother to access the separate garage block despite our leaving out a key (it "looked too small") and made some errors. We ended up revisiting with a third party afterwards to double check a number of points that had either been incorrectly flagged as needing attention, exaggerated or not looked at. The surveyor stopped answering my queries when I indicated I wasn't happy with the service. We got our valuation and the mortgage offer came through within a few days, which was great, but based on our recent experience I'd say stay away from Colleys AT ALL COSTS, even if it means not using Halifax as your lender.

Due to exchange tomorrow though, finally, so no more awful surveying issues for us - I hope!
  • At last we have a date of 29th August after emails from solicitor and mortgage adviser trying to hurry it up.

Only one more week to go :) hope it doesn't take long after that and also that everything is ok, it's being done by Connells surveyors,

Hope your exchange went smoothly littlebigmouth.

I think some people have to wait about six weeks, my solicitor told me that, I think the mortgage companies need to employ some more surveyors especially as the market seems to be picking up.

It's just horrible waiting as I have been advised to wait for the survey results before instructing my solicitor so nothing happening at the moment lol.

we went ahead with the solicitor without the survey ... searches etc being carried out as we speak. Yes we could lose out, but we evaluated the situation and decided it was worth the risk to get things moving...

my parents waited 6 weeks before the people buying their property got round to doing a survey, think they were waiting on the survey to their house. My parents got their survey done quickly.

i think that's fairly normal. We waited til our buyers had booked their survey until we booked (and paid for) ours.
  • I have a mortgage going through with Halifax at the moment. It's a rush job as the property is a (nice) repo. My broker gave me a call suggesting I get the EA to call Colleys to bring the survey forward.

The EA did this and confirmed they are coming on Tuesday 10th December. I had asked for, and paid for a home buyers survey.

On Saturday I got a letter from Shepherds Surveyors regarding the homebuyers report. Does this mean Colleys have offloaded it onto Shepherds or does this mean that Colleys will do the valuation and Shepherds will then go in and do the HBS, thus adding delay to the process?

    Thanks
