Gas & Elec Switching - Moderator/s?

Hi all - could a/the moderator with a knowledge of gas and elec switching please pm me? I may need advice about the best way to raise an issue. Depending on a phone call I am due to receive this morning, I may have a serious "policy" issue to raise which may have an effect on the advice offered to visitors to the site.

Thanks.

That is not the way that forums work.

You are unlikely to get any help about a hypothetical "policy" issue.

If you explain your problem, you may get the advice you need.

  • Well if my experience over the past few days, and 2 phone conversations with a rep of a major energy company this morning, are anything to go by, it is far from hypothetical. The issue, as far as I know, is not flagged up to potential "switchers" - at least it wasn't on the 2 occasions we have switched. It may well result in interruptions in supply and people having all savings from switching wiped out through no fault of theirs.

I have never felt any need to seek advice from "those in charge" before and was hoping for some guidance, that's all - I certainly wouldn't expect the Mods to "vet" draft posts!

I don't think I am one of the "tinfoil hat" brigade:D but that's for others to judge. The company concerned has admitted (not in writing yet, sadly) a serious problem with an unforeseen issue in the switching process, and undertook to have an answer for my by 9.30 this morning, but I'll wait a wee while yet. Who knows, they may have a solution that will sort things out for me but I'm not optimistic.

    Now, where's my tinfoil......:)

There is a difference between 'unforseeable' and 'not well known' or 'not publicised'. Most of them are known. If you have some sage Rumsfeldian insight then enlighten us.

Somehow I doubt your issue is not not in the terms and conditions nor tariff price.

There aren't moderators on here. Please just say what you think the issue is and people will help.

Assuming you are talking about a domestic supply, there are no interuptions to supply when you switch supplier. All that happens is you get a new supplier that bills you and provides the customer service.

It's the same gas/electricity coming through the same pipes/wires no matter who you choose as a supplier.

You'll need to explain how you think any savings from switching could be wiped out before anyone could comment.

Look, I know that the folk who have replied are trying to help - thanks for that. My initial post was me looking to have a quick "exchange" with someone in the know before posting a warning to others.

It is a domestic supply, and I know it's the same gas and elec through the same pipes and wires. This isn't a problem I have caused or in any way contributed to. I know that I can't be alone. This issue of interruption is not related to the circumstances you mentioned - I am not in the process of switching, I switched over a year ago.

The company hasn't yet called back, but I can confirm that the only two solutions offered to me so far today would either a) risk an interruption to my supply and/or b) wipe out any savings made since we switched. I can scarcely believe it either, I assure you. I'll post details when I get word back from the company one way or another.

As said, there's no-one that works for this place, either paid or unpaid, that will do that with you. Please just post the details, either there is an issue that people need to be aware of (and if you tell us then you are doing a service to the community), or not. There's no need at all to be cryptic or conceal information.

Yep, post your issue and let people discuss it. If there's a warning to go out to people, that's an effective way to do it.
If at some point, somebody gets named and shamed then either it will be defended or recognised and supported by others.
That's the best way to "raise an issue".

The Washington Post are on tenterhooks. Or perhaps not.
