O/S Daily Friday 9th August 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning chums ,well srioursly manic today as there is so much to do before I leave for my holiday tomorrow morning .my cold did develope and I have a very husky voice at the moment but hopefully it will clear up over the weekend.
The grandsons are buzzing about their holiday and are excited about the prospect of two weeks by the sea on the IoW.I am still searching for my passport and going methodically through each drawer in the house I know I have shoved it somewhere and it will turn up.
Its a bit overcast and cloudy at the moment but its supposed to brighten up later.I will have to remember to read the meters and send of the reading as they are due while I'm away .alos top the tank up with diesel and chack the tyre pressures.,sort out the tinned food that we take with us that I have been collecting for the past few months ,change up the 'road kill' tin of coppers thats almost full. Its suprising how much small change is just thrown away,I save it all in a tin and once a year I change it up and it usually helps to pay for the boys ice creams. They too collect for Granny's tin on their trips to and from school.I have raised savvy little grandchildren with a lot of my ways :):):)
Right must fly as I have a million things to do. If I don't get a chance to get back online today hope everyone has a brilliant day and <<hugs >> to the sad, down or poorlies
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

Fish fed, breakfast eaten, no other plans for today apart from trying to stay awake.
    Have a good day everyone

  • Good morning everyone :)

Was up early today despite being off work, I think my internal body clock just does not recognise days off.

I bought an art book yesterday in a charity shop for just 60p. It looked really interesting and I like the artist but couldn't resist checking the price on Amazon when I got home, where I discovered I can trade it in for a £30 Amazon gift card! I do like the book but that is too much of a temptation so it will be off again on its travels today. I have a couple of ebay parcels to post too.

Low carb went a bit off course last night and ended up eating some butter beans in my dinner. Stomach is suffering for it this morning, feel really bloated and unsettled and still need to wait and see the impact on weight. Oh well at least I didn't go mad and eat rice or bread etc.

Back on track today with Thai style pork mince for dinner with stir fried bean sprouts and cabbage. Bought some fish to make low carb sushi over the weekend too plus am going to have another go at the coconut ice cream. It was far too icy last time so suspect we did not beat it enough during the freezing stage.

JackieO - I hope you have a wonderful holiday. The same wish applies to everyone who is setting off on their travels this weekend

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning All

    Welcome Sunshine.
Butterfly Brain - That sounds like a long day you had, hope the toes heal soon.
HH - As others have said, if you need to sleep then do. Your body will heal while you are sleeping.
JackieO - Have a lovely holiday.

Well I went to bed just after 9 last night and read for a while, turned off the light about 10 and slept till 6 - haven't slept that long for ages.

Went to the dentist yesterday, it's a new practice and the dentist himself is lovely (very young and quite pleasing to the eye!). Need to have a few bits done over the next couple of months - the last one only seemed to advise on getting expensive cosmetic stuff.

Tea last night was hm pasta sauce with pasta for DD and rice for me, DD had taken it out of the freezer so will use the rest tonight, thought I may make some fajitas.

Meeting a friend for coffee this morning and then going to C0stco for a couple of bits as it is on the way to Dec@thlon where DD wants to look at a bike. May also call at the big Tesc0 to look for new work trousers, school starts again on Tuesday.

Hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX

    Hi all.
It's a decorating day today. We went to B&Q yesterday and got paint to do the bathroom ceiling, the downstairs toilet and the front porch. We've been in our rented house almost 18 months now and the landlord has told us he is happy for us to stay as long as we want and he isn't going to be putting the rent up any time soon to risk losing us, and he is happy for us to decorate too. We've already done the kitchen bright yellow and the bathroom white, and he is paying for new vinyl flooring in both of those rooms.
We have decided to paint the tiny front porch a dark coffee colour. Hopefully it will make it feel a bit warmer!
BF's dad and granny came round yesterday because his dad was doing a couple of tiny jobs for us and they brought us this huge plant, can't remember the name but it has lovely purple flowers and apparently attracts butterflies, so I repotted that in a big tub. We also found a healthy looking clematis growing up the fence which is good, and his dad is going to give us a load of sweet peas too.
Next doors cats are in my bad books - I was clearing up all their 'deposits' they leave on our lawn when I found a dead mouse. I don't even like cats, so I am really not pleased. Anyone know how I can keep them out of my garden?!
Anyway, I need to go to Asda because we decided to treat ourselves to a big cooked breakfast tomorrow and we need sausages!
Hope you all have a lovely day!

Edit: just looked up the plant and I think it's a Buddleia

Just time to drop in with my plans.... And to catch up with what everyone else is doing. If you are having a busy day then I'm sending energy particles your way. If you're having a restful one then I've also sent some 'guilt free' dust your way as we all need a chill now and again.

After I drop the girls off at the dance thing, I've got to go the opticians and have the pressure on my eyes done. As it was so high I have to have an anaesthetic so hope I'll be okay for driving!

I've not much surface tidying to do now. Way behind schedule but as there is enough for a car boot then maybe I can understand why!

Hoping to get to one of them personalised coke days today as they don.t have dd1 name but had mine and dd2 so she was miffed. Will also tag in the other school bits she needs so can tick off other bits.

Might get the sewing machine this morning... Watch this space!
Don’t put it down - put it away!

    Morning all,

Drizzling here today, have been left home alone, OH and dd gone to work, and I am still here with foot up ! thank you all for the good wishes yesterday, I cannot believe how painful a torn ligament can be, and I have utmost respect for any one dealing with mobility issues on a daily basis, its so frustrating not being able to do the most normal things, even going to the loo is a challange :o. Will just take it easy again today and potter.

Hester I hope you start to see some improvement soon x

Jackie O have a fab time away x

Not sure whats for dinner, will hobble to the freezer in a while to see, will have to be something easy. OH cooked last night chicken and chips, I had planned for the chicken to last at least 2 meals, but DD's 2 best friends turned up and stayed for dinner they are boys and don't they eat a lot ? OH dished up all the chicken and they fell in it like they had not eaten for weeks :D

Glitterkitty ws it a buddleia ? butterflies love them.

Have good days all and take care x

Thank you everyone for the Welcome.

Have two appointments at the hospital today 11am &1.30pm.
The OH is making packed lunch and flask up as I am typing.
The last time we were there the appointments ran well over time and it cost £4 for two teas and the price of the sandwiches well:eek:
So after the first appointment we will go and sit in the covered garden part and have picnic until. its time for the next one.

I will proberly just rest when we get home and the OH is going to be making toad in the hole for tea his favourite.:)

Hope everyone has a good day, and hugs to all the people who are sick.

Warm and sunny here, which is good as DH has to drive to Taunton for a meeting. I'll be doing a bit of pottering about once my knee settles down and the tablets take effect.
The garden is finished so now we can start working out where things will go - I can put the small table near the back door now - so handy for a quick cuppa outside!

Glitterkitty I use sonic cat scarers as we used to have a cat toilet not a garden - really gross. They are now set up in the raised beds as the clear soil is too tempting.

Have a great day all x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
