British Airways delay - Dec 2010

Hi all,
Im new here, and apologies in advance if other threads answer my question already - I am seeking clarification this evening having looked at the FAQ's already!
Ok, so my wife and I got married 4th December 2010, and we departed London Gatwick for our Maldives honeymoon on the 5th December 2010 with British Airways flight BA2043. We had booked the honeymoon package, flights and accomodation through Thomas Cook Signature.
Unfortunately the flight arrived late - 197 mins late according to flight stats. It also meant that, being the Maldives, we arrived late to miss the connecting air-taxi flight to our final destination-island. We therefore had to stay on the main island of Male overnight to take the first air-taxi the following day. I understand that being that British Airways and Maldivian Air Taxi are two entirely different entities with different PNR's, I cannot claim for a vastly delayed final destination compensation claim.
In summary, the flight delay is:
-Between 3 to 4 hours
-Was of EU origin
-Cause of delay was an engine generator fault/failure I believe
-Was only 2 and a half years ago
-The flight is about 8500km in distance
I would not traditionally claim, however being that this was our honeymoon, I expected everything to run smoothly - staying in an undesirable hotel for the first night of our honeymoon rather than in a water bungalow in paradise was not really what I had in mind.
However.... the BA website suggests that I pursue my 'Tour Operator' with a refund request - everything else I read on the forums suggest I take it up with the airline, so I am left a little confused as to who to write to. In summary:
-Who should I write to?
-How much should I claim for? According to the MSE thread for my criterion it is €300 per person unless I am mistaken?
Thanks in advance! :T

Did you go on honeymoon for 32 months ?
Why didn't you do something when you first got home ?0 -
It didnt want to start pursuing an argument the moment we arrived back in the UK, as I would rather not remember my honeymoon with a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth.
I read a newspaper article recently regarding the change in legislation of October 2012 which has been seeing more compensations go through; prior to this point, I was unaware of a claims procedure, or the probability of it being successful.
I have been inspired by other people's stories, and have finally decided to pull my finger out and do something about it myself. Given that compensations can pre-date up to 2005/2007, why not?0 -

Disregard the comment from Own my Own - the law was only ratified in October last year.
Firstly you should be posting on the dedicated BA thread.
Secondly your analysis (as far as I can see) is correct and you should submit a claim to BA. Read the FAQ's on page one of the dedicated thread and proceed from there.0 -
Apologies - at midnight last night my eyes failed me, and I didnt look thoroughly enough for the BA thread. Ill be heading in that direction now, many thanks!0
