Even though it's not a patch on the book. I'll still enjoy watching the repeat of Victoria Wood in "Housewife 49", the adaptation of the most famous set of diaries from the WW2 Mass observation project, which I know is an OS favourite:

The Book People had the two book set for £3.99, unfortunately I've just checked, and they're out of stock. Do they ever restock if something's been popular.

Nella Last's Peace is also a worthy read. My daughter bought it for me and I enjoyed it very much.0

Really enjoyed this drama.Victoria Wood was great
Half Way reading the book "Nellie Last War" What a fanastic inspirational woman ( we think we have it hard at the moment!)
It upsets me slightly that though her dairies were first pubilished in book form in the Seventies she had died a few years earlier. So never got to know how admired she became and her wish "Next to been a mother, I'd have loved to write books" came true
Glad I saw the Tv show first because as good as it is I would of been disappointed if I had read the book firstFebuary NSD 8/14 March NSD 9/110 -

Oh, I agree. Part of me wishes she could have led the life she dreamed about and travelled and written more widely, but then we wouldn't have her wonderful insights into family life!0 -
For anypne who enjoyed the TV programme, BBC Radio 4 are serialising Nella Last's Peace as the Book of the Week this week. Mon-Fri at 09:45 and repeated at 00:30, and on the Listen Again service for 7 days.
It starts in August 1945, and shows that the privations didn't stop just because the war did. It's read beautifully by Imelda Staunton, and I really enjoyed episode 1.
