TNC parking ticket

I was visiting my son who is a student recently in Edinburgh, parked outside the flat (for which we pay rent), and got a parking ticket as we hadn't got round to putting the parking permit in the car, it was a Sunday afternoon and we were only there a short while. I actually caught the attendant just after he put the ticket on the car but he shrugged his shoulders and said we could appeal, which we did via email, our appeal was refused. My friends have said just ignore it, which we have done and we have now received a demand for £140 pounds and a threat of our credit rating being affected for the next 6 years if we don't pay up. Can they legally do this?

Very bad move to get in touch with them as you have probably confirmed who was driving.
In Scotland, they don't have POPLA, so the next and only step they can make is court.
Please confirm was this a council ticket or was it on private land?
I am assuming private land. Very important, who was the Parking company? and does their letter have the BPA (British Parking Association) Logo on it?
And what did the original ticket say the amount you could have paid if you settled promptly?
Also, did you get any more letters between the ticket and the letter demanding £140? If so, how much did they want then?
If you answer those questions, it helps with the advice0 -
The original ticket said to pay £60, , this letter has BPA on it, I haven't had any other letters although someone phoned yesterday and said I could pay £100 and I said I was going to seek advice. It is a private residents parking area.0

The parking company are P4 Parking.0

Ignore them, their invoices hold as much merit as me charging you for reading this. These idiots don't even realise what the laws are in Scotland , a decree effects your credit rating for 5 years not 6 ! It's these kinds of things that show you they have no clue and are just scammersWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

The parking company are P4 Parking.
LOL, that pathetic 'P4Parking' name always makes me laugh! You've Googled them and read other threads, yes?! And searched the forum for the single keyword 'Scotland'? And searched for and read recent (2013) threads about P4Parking and TNC as well?
Ignore them, should NEVER have appealed, there was never any appeal. They lied. IT'S A SCAM LIKE A SERIES OF PHISHING EMAILS; A FAKE PCN.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I got the same letter from TNC asking £100 for their client P4 parking. Should I ignore all these letters? I'm the owner of the car but don't think I was driving it on the day the ticket was issued (I never see the original P4 parking ticket, either. My friend who was driving the car mentioned it but we decided to ignore it as we are visiting someone who is staying in that private land, we just don't show the guest parking permit.). Would be happy to provide more information if needed. Many thanks.0

You've posted on a Scotland thread, where the advice is 'ignore it'. I assume you realised that when you posted here on this thread?
In England the advice is to appeal it, so if yours was in England or Wales get reading of the current threads instead, and don't read Scotland cases as the law differs.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. Yes you're right it happened in Edinburgh. However, the TNC got my address info from DVLA directly, which makers me a little bit worried. Is that safe to keep ignoring their letters? Many thanks.0 -
Yep, ignore in Scotland. This Watchdog video applies to your case:

'Tis just a scam of junk mail, rather like a series of phishing emails. Of course they got your data from the DVLA, they sell it at £2.50 a pop!

Hi, I watched the youtube video carefully and noticed something in its comments:
VERY IMPORTANT: As mentioned elsewhere on here, please be aware that since October 2012 the law says that these private parking companies can now hold the registered keeper liable if they don't know who the driver was.
Is this true? Does it apply to the Scotland? Many thanks.0
