HBOS doesn't and never had a banking licence.

Yes it has ... under the name Bank of Scotland Plc (but including Halifax, BoS, BM, etc).

I don't think that they do as the sum total of the subsidiaries equal the Banking group.

    They operate several banking licences.

    Lloyds TSB
    Lloyds TSB Scotland
    Bank of Scotland
    Scottish Widows Bank

are the ones that come to mind.

Thanks - I was interested to know if they held the banking licence under the name Lloyds Banking Group Company No. SC095000

as an earlier post suggested that HBOS Company No. SC218813 had never held a banking licence and was replied to stating it has one under the name Bank of Scotland Plc (but including Halifax, BoS, BM, etc)

As you can't open an account with that company, only with one of its subsidiaries, it suggests that the answer to your question is no, they don't have a banking licence.

The purpose of my post was to query the answer given in respect to HBOS earlier in this thread

To back up my answer earlier (re Bank of Scotland Plc), see here.

This site lists all firms that are authorised by the PRA - BoS is on there (click 'names' to see that Halifax, BM, IF etc all fall under this authorisation).

LBG doesn't operate banking licences nor did HBOS.
They own/owned companies that have operate banking licences.

Lloyds TSB Bank plc and Bank of Scotland plc are not the same entity as Lloyds Banking Group plc [or each other for that matter].

You said HBOS plc has/had a banking licence?

I have still seen no evidence of this as Bank of Scotland plc isn't HBOS plc.
