That said, I do not think you will get anywhere with this one I'm afraid.
It would not give any name as you dont give your name when you order anything. and if you dont know what date you purchased the item then how would Argos locate it.0 -
they dont take names, you will in a slip of paper with the order number only from catalogue and hand this to cashier, pay and then wait for the pickers to pick your item, stamp receipt as paid and then you leave with goods. The only time they would take your name was if you took out insurance on the item or ordered home delivery, but then you would have proof of purchase.I really would've expected Argos to have a name associated with an order.
Do you give you name to Asda/Tesco or you local corner shop when you purchase anything?0 -

I cannot imagine an Argos shop employee taking an order without a name... if only so they can phone up later and say "that item you ordered is now in. Can you come in and pay for it sometime?".
But I agree with Halibut, this is going nowhere.0 -
Mrs_Dickie wrote: »I bought my wedding ring along with my husbands back in January at my local Argos store. We were married at the end of May so I have only been wearing my ring since then which makes it roughly 3 months. A couple of days ago a small chunk of my ring just came off! I took it back to the shop today and because I no longer have my receipt they said there was nothing they could do. I feel like I am being penalised for paying cash at the time as obviously this means that there is no proof through my bank account either. I have an office job so I don't do anything that would have caused the ring to break, it must have been faulty.
The ring was ordered through the store although I no longer remember the exact date of this but surely there is some way they can check their computer systems? I asked the man if they could do this with the transaction and he said no as they would have to look through thousands of them to find it.
Do I have any comback on this? I am so upset that I am now left out of pocket and with a wedding ring that I cannot wear
You're not being penalised for paying cash, you're being penalised for not keeping your receipt safe!
Under the SOGA, there's a 6 month period wherein it's assumed that any faults were there at the time of purchase. If you bought in January then that 6 months would end in July. After the 6 month period its down to you to prove it's an inherent fault. That's another good reason that the receipt is important.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Not even when ordered in store?
No they dont take your name, unless you order insurance with the item or home delivery, if the item is not in stock they will order this for you to collect usually in a couple of days, but they will just give you a reservation number.
even if you order online to collect instore you are never asked for your name, just a mobile number or email, so they can email/text the reservation number to you.
yes as Halibut says its going nowhere now0 -
Only thought is, try to get an exchange at another branch, I don't hold out much hope though, maybe ring them first, ask for the manager.0
-
I can't believe you expect them to exchange this with absolutely no proof of purchase on an item with (presumably) no distinguishing marks to prove that this is even from Argos. I don't mean to be harsh saying this, I'm sure you are upset about your wedding ring.
Would you maybe have the box it came in? And if so, does the box indicate that it was from Argos?0 -

You're not being penalised for paying cash, you're being penalised for losing your receipt. One of these is the shop's fault, and one isn't...
Just learn from it and keep receipts safe next time, this time you're not going to get anywhere. You could have bought it 2nd hand, stolen it etc - they don't know you bought it legitimately.0
