I have no proof of purchase!

I bought my wedding ring along with my husbands back in January at my local Argos store. We were married at the end of May so I have only been wearing my ring since then which makes it roughly 3 months. A couple of days ago a small chunk of my ring just came off! I took it back to the shop today and because I no longer have my receipt they said there was nothing they could do. I feel like I am being penalised for paying cash at the time as obviously this means that there is no proof through my bank account either. I have an office job so I don't do anything that would have caused the ring to break, it must have been faulty.
The ring was ordered through the store although I no longer remember the exact date of this but surely there is some way they can check their computer systems? I asked the man if they could do this with the transaction and he said no as they would have to look through thousands of them to find it.
Do I have any comback on this? I am so upset that I am now left out of pocket and with a wedding ring that I cannot wear

If it was ordered then presumably it will be recorded by them.
In the first instance get them to check, if they refuse you could do a Data Protection Act Subject Access Request for $10 and in the copy of the letter explicitly mention the detail of the order and which store it was at etc0 -
You need to provide proof or purchase I'm afraid and since you don't have any then unfortunately they will not refund.
In this day and age any large purchases are really best put on a card of some sort or even better bought online (then you have an email record).0 -
See it was a smallish purchase at £74ish with both my ring and my partners so I didn't need to the need to use the card. Would they not even give me an exchange without the proof?0

Think about this. You're a jeweller and someone walks into your shop with a damaged ring and asks you to exchange it, without offering any proof of purchase, so you don't even now how long ago it was bought, or even if it was bought from you. Would you exchange the damaged ring for a new one in such circumstances? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Nope, as you can't prove WHEN you bought it, or even that you bought it from them.
If not paying by card, it's very important to hold onto receipts.
As it was just a cheap one, could you not just buy another one?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

This isn't proof the OP ordered the ring though is it. Sorry OP you are most likely stuffed on this one.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

Data Protection Act Subject Access Request will only request that they provide you with what information they hold on you.
As the OP ordered by cash then how are Argos going to link any order to a specific person. They cant. Argos will not have any of your details recorded.0 -

I really would've expected Argos to have a name associated with an order.0 -
Just because you've ordered something, it doesn't mean you've collected and paid for it. I've reserved online from Argos before now then changed my mind and not picked the item up. An online order unless you pay online at the same time means nothing in terms of proof of purchase. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
But it would give a name and a date. Should be easy enough for Argos to see that this ring was bought by the named person.
That said, I do not think you will get anywhere with this one I'm afraid. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
