working tax and child tax stopped

I have just been informed my working tax and child tax is stopped due to my daughter 19 has just finished college and i only work 20 hours per week. My partner suffers from agrophobia and is on ESA. I am now 320 per month worse off. As I claim a small amount for Housing Benefit will this now increase as my finances have changed? My daughter is only working 16 hours pt to support herself.
I dont know what to do - try working 30 hours will this in the long run make me better off?
all advice would be grateful.

    Hello

So a few things are likely to happen now. Your daughter will cease to be considered a dependent and so you have lost your CTC and WTC. You have also lost, your Child Benefit?

Your Housing Benefit will change but it won't be for the better necessarily as your daughter will now be considered a non dependent and so you will lose some of the allowances and premiums you had been allowed for her.

I would strongly urge you to contact your council for advice.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

Use the turn2us benefits site, put in all your details and it will give you a calculation.

Its much easier to use that as it will ask everything it needs to know.

Does your partner get DLA / PIP? It is based on personnnal care and mobility needs NOT a diagnosis.

Pretty sure you get WTC on 20 hours if your partner is incapacitated. Perhaps someone can confirm this?

You sure on this, it used to be 16 hours

OP's other half is on ESA.

Is it because they don't have other children that they need 30 hours?

100% sure. Its a joint claim so while partner may be on ESA, OP would still need to work 30+ hrs pw.

If it was a single claim and ESA was a factor, then its 16+

Is that because they don't get child tax? Many families I work with work 16 hours and get WTC as a couple, if this has changed I don't want to give out wrong information. Is the difference a dependant child?

    Yes.

As there is no CTC now due to OP daughter not being on the claim, the WTC element is altered so the full 30hrs is required.

Thank you both, I rarely work where a child is nearing end of CTC but it's something I need to remember just in case
