I can't see with a bedroom floor how to much cold air will be entering, being no cavity the joist ends shouldn't be omitting much air, but no house is airtight so it could be the case.
Actually nobody has yet established (least of all the OP) that this gap is actually the source of anything. So the exhortatiosn to stuff it full of silicone, expanding foam or otherwise spend money dropping skirts or replacing them is quite beyond me.

    1. Roll up some newsprint, feed rolls into gap.
    2. Has the "problem" gone away?
    3. No? - Investigate alternative source for problem.
    4. Yes? Problem solved and the newspaper probably is far enough in that is not noticeable anyway.
That's going to be 1 heck of a scotia moulding to cover a 1" gap.
OP already said that 1" is an exaggeration.

    Cheers

As said, if you had bothered to read the thread you would have seen that the OP revised it to 1cm.

Steady on chap, I read what the OP put in his 1st post, my comments where based more on how unsightly a 1" gap must look:eek:ie horrendous.

Scotia is indeed the best way to cover it, if it has now suddenly shrunk..

Hope you are happier with that.

Same comment to you KS, I couldn't see how there was any way to make it look good without doing a proper job, having read the op's opening gambit.

I shall condemn my self to the stocks for failing to read every post.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

No its not a question of making good. OP thinks he has a draught and/or a source of cold air. Its that he wants to sort out. Making good is quite a different and secondary issue.

Mmm - do I detect the smell of burning martyr? :D

Which is why I posted#19, ie, "To do this correctly and to make both the best looking and most effective remedy", addressing both issues, singed but not scorched.

The OP, who we are all trying to help, posted somewhat misleading detail, that will polarise replies.

Without seeing a pic sound like the skirting has been undercut at some point for laminate.

YOu could try prising the skirting off the wall and renailing so it's in contact with the carpet.

Prising the old stuff off in the hope that it can be refitted is hardly ever feasible.
Chances are that it will split , leave holes where the nails won't let go and damage the plaster.
I would in the short term bung some newspaper in as suggested above and replace the skirting (which will probably need some scribing) when you are in a position to do so.
    Forgotten but not gone.
