Gap between skirting board and floor

Hi
We have a big gap (ranging from between 1cm and 1") between our skirting boards and our floor in our bedroom, and I'm sure this is contributing to how cold our bedroom gets at night. Can anyone suggest a way to sort this out myself?
Thanks xx

Fill it with silicone sealant and strips of wood cut to size.
Though with 1" gap, does sound like the skirting board needs removing and remounting lower. Or is it a case of floorboards very uneven?0 -
Did the room have laminate flooring or somthing, or have you taken up the carpet? 1cm is very big, really sounds like you need the room re-skirting.
I cant see how the gap will make the room cold, are your window seals gone causing a draught? or single glazing.
Is your loft insulated?
Cavity wall insulation installed?
Do you leave your bedroom door open at night?0 -
There seems to be a breeze coming through it! It's a very old house, the walls are very uneven. There's no draft coming through the windows and they're double glazed. It's a stone build and there's no cavity, the rest of the house isn't as bad but our room is awful. Bedroom door is closed.
I will look into replacing the skirting but I really can't afford to have any work done so I wanted to find a cheap fix until I can afford it. I wondered about this stuff: http://www.amazon.co.uk/window-draught-excluder-strip-White/dp/B004H0H8PY
I think I massively overexaggerated when I said 1", sorry! It's more like 1cm.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Was going to say, either it was a poor build, or the floors have moved (and should be investigated) if the gap was 1 inch. In my house I went round all the rooms with silicon and filled under the skirting boards - made a hell of a difference.0
