Don't you mean to protect those most likely to vote for them?

Why is that?
Mobility or lack of it due to a disability is one thing. Mobility or lack of it due to the natural process of ageing is another.
Hence at the cut off age of 65, any deterioration of mobility will be deemed to have arisen out of the general ageing process.
Otherwise we would end up with everyone that is over 65 claiming mobility problems at some time in their life.0 -
Not quite identical as AA doesn't have a lower care component unlike DLA which does.
I would have though the answer to your second question is fairly obvious!
Yes it is, scrap AA and make everyone claim PIP and for those new claimants over 65 they can only be assessed for care needs. There are only two categories for care under PIP as there is for AA.0 -

Why would there be a loss of income?
Care in AA can so easily be Care in PIP.
We don't need AA anymore - it can very easily be rolled into PIP with no loss to the recipient.0 -
The good news ATOS will be dealing with the medicals for PIP claims...These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

more like to protect themselves from a loss of votes!
to be honest, even though a lot of pensioners have a tough time.... even more receive silly amounts of benefit.
my father in law (now deceased) had an income of over $400 a week ( state pension/private pension/iindustrial injuries benefit/DLA) plus full housing and council tax benefit.
he was forever trying to give me money as he was housebound and had no opportunity to spend it.
he aldo had carers going in 3 times a day and didnt have to contribute anything.
i know je was entitled to it, but surely there should be a limit on what any one person needs?
he was like many old people he withfrew every penny as soon as it hit the bank. it used to worry the life out of me knowing he had all that money hidden around the house
£400 a week!! I have spent the last 15 minutes working out how much a pensioner couple could actually get just from benefits alone - close to £700 a week!!! And for that they need never have paid a penny in NI in the whole of their working lives.
In fact neither needs to have worked at all or even signed on. Just cash in hand jobs, no names, no tax paid.0 -

As I said before, pity those that actually want to claim this benefit. There is more to life than endless medical assessments, appeals and Tribunals.
And people are saying that the PIP assessment will be nothing like the ESA one.
Dream Land!!
I have had 5 medicals with ATOS over the years that were not for ESA or DLA. Not one of them bore any relationship to the truth! In fact one was so bad that the 'doctor' actually wrote down that I was making it all up!! He even concluded that the drugs I was taking were obtained via the internet from abroad without prescription. Shame that when the evidence was sent in which contradicted everything that ATOS described, I didn't even warrant an apology.
That's good old ATOS!0 -

You've said before, Andy, that's how much you and Flo get, so I suppose your 15 minutes was spent checking your bank statements!
