PIPs/AA/DLA

Would I be correct in thinking that there are no new claims for DLA (except for under 16s) or AA now, and all claims are for PIPs.

  • Yes you would be correct - PIP claims started for new claimants in June this year.

I know it doesn't quite rightly so, but it certainly has a care component identical to the care component of DLA!!!

It would be so easy for PIP to replace AA - you just have the care component and ignore the mobility one. What is so hard in that?

    Why is that?

Not quite identical as AA doesn't have a lower care component unlike DLA which does.

I would have though the answer to your second question is fairly obvious!

The reason that AA was not touched is that the government restricted all welfare reforms to people of working age to protect people of pension age from a change/loss of income.

more like to protect themselves from a loss of votes!

to be honest, even though a lot of pensioners have a tough time.... even more receive silly amounts of benefit.
my father in law (now deceased) had an income of over $400 a week ( state pension/private pension/iindustrial injuries benefit/DLA) plus full housing and council tax benefit.
he was forever trying to give me money as he was housebound and had no opportunity to spend it.

he aldo had carers going in 3 times a day and didnt have to contribute anything.

i know je was entitled to it, but surely there should be a limit on what any one person needs?

he was like many old people he withfrew every penny as soon as it hit the bank. it used to worry the life out of me knowing he had all that money hidden around the house

This is why the benefits system needs reform.
