ALLIANCE & LEICESTER 0% overdraft account a con BEWARE

I have recently opened a account with alliance & Leicester to take advantage of the overdraft facility. Once opened i had a call from a delightful chap informing me of identity faud and that i caould be protceted for just £59.99 a year. I asked for him to send me datails to look through. Received them in the post a few days later. Had a look and decided against and placed them in the paper shredder . Activated the alliance & leicester card. Checked my balance today on the website and have had a direct debit of £59.99 taken!!!!! Have rang and spoken to some rightous rude employess of the company Identity protection and have been told that they will contact me in 7 days once they have listened to my converstaion with the gentlemen before they can consider a referal of a refund. Made them aware i did not agree to subscribe. then the girl told me it was because i didn't read the small print and my certificate was at the bottom of the letter. then told me that when i activated my card i subscribed to the subscriuption. So my conclusion is that alliance & leicester are in on it they must get some kind of payment from the company for sharing customer details and find it utterly disgusting that a well know company such as the alliance & leicester can allow this to happen to their customers new ones as that.

That's not good. Their attitude as you describe it is worse in my view. I understand you should have a 14 day 'cooling off' period in any case. In which case it shouldn't matter what was said or what you signed you should be able to pull out of the payment.
I would be interested to know how you get on. At the very least they should refund you as it couldn't be good for customer or public relations to persist with this.0 -
I opened an account and had the identify theft policy pushed at me when I activated my card too, which I thought was a bit rich. Unlike the OP, however, I firmly and politely declined. Had to do so a couple of times though - they were very keen.
I was surprised how hard the sell was - but it wasn't as hard for me as it is the OP. Refund due, clear and simple. Surprised they haven't offered it straight away. Best of luck with it - should be sorted in a matter of minutes really, otherwise my opinion of my new bank will take a serious dent.

What's this got to do with 0% overdraft? Calling it "a con" could be seen as libelllous, and so I urge you to change the title of this thread.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

And the only reason that would happen would be people saying stuff like that.
Much like when the tango megaphones were banned in case they were used to bully people, what happened? Everyone start bullying people with them..0 -
