  • I don't see your problem. We can't all be experts in everything.
  • I can see the OP's point, its not expertise its a complete lack of common sense, some of them really shouldn't be allowed out without a suitable carer.

Common sense..whatever that is.....can only be applied if the person trying to apply it is aware of the rules and guidelines surrounding whatever it is they are applying 'common sense', to.

Ignorance has always been out there.

Think back to when you al were 18 years old?

Knowing what you know now, would you still have done the same things back then?

The tinternet allows easy access to a great pool of knowledge.

SO the 'knowledgeable' are increasingly more aware of the volume of ignorance.

Also, cars these days are increasingly seen as convenient transport..whereas at one time we used trains without a thought, now the choice is but a car.

And the licence is viewed in the same vein..simply, a personal travel pass.

I have the same ignorance regarding computers and mobile phones.

Care-in-the-Community has so far failed me, so when I realise a need for a computer, or mobile, I am equally lost.

[yet, either of those things represent, in my little world, an even greater investment than I'm prepared to spend on my cars]
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

    Don't be so horrible.

You might think other people are dumb but you've just illustrated a flaw in your own character by posting as you did.

This country is 90% driven by delusions of granduer, this idea of social class. Technical stuff is now seen as "dirty" and for the lower classes, whilst sharpening pencils and drinking coffee all day is seen as something to aspire to.

People see cars as something they want to own, but something that somebody of a lower class should have to maintain. People don't want to learn because if they learn and still don't know as much as someone else, that's embarrassing for them. It breaks that illusion that they are better than the guy fixing their car.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, 90% of the UK are stupid. Academics doesn't mean sh*t if you ain't got an ounce of common sense.
Intelligence comes from curiosity, from a genuine interest in learning a subject, regardless of whether you might fail, not from memorising text books and not from gossip between friends.
I myself have many area's of knowledge as well as technical ability, i'm open to learning. However I will quickly lose my rag when confronted by an idiot who claims to know everything, but is clearly just full of hot air.

In this country it seems you only need to be moderately good looking, stupid and have a big mouth.

It's a very clever system though, because it's designed to use these people as cash cows, to milk them and keep them controlled through a system of debt. Let them have their delusional aspirations, let them use credit to get there, keep the stinking rich sticking rich.

Meanwhile, people like myself and many others on here, we sit back and watch the comedy.

    BUT

As for the OP, I think your wrong...... People who come here for advice have put any arrogance aside, they've come here to learn and they've taken a big step toward being a better person. These days I applaud anyone who does that, no matter how lacking their knowledge is, they've come here on their own steam to learn about and solve a problem.
We get the odd exception, the odd person who comes here acting like they know everything and goes away acting like they know everything, but it's an open forum :p

Fair enough if people ask genuine questions, usually though its " Ive just made a bad decision so who can I put the blame on?"
that's not a learning curve! it just perpetuates the hand holding, consumer rights, health and safety culture we are being stuck with.

Government made people stupid, stupid people don't stand up for themselves or anyone else. But as a result they also need to be protected from exploitation by people who are not the govt.
The balancing act is so fine and so complex, keeping people poor enough to be compliant, but rich enough to keep paying up.

Govt doesn't tolerate slugs in it's cabbage patch.

Hold on... aren't you doing the same thing yourself here?

I do a very technical job at work, but much of my time is spent in an office in front of a PC.

    So am I technical, or a pencil-sharpener?
