PAC / Number porting help

Hi,
I am currently a customer of Orange and requested my PAC code some weeks ago in order to terminate current contract and take out a new deal with Orange through Dial A Phone.
Unfortunately the PAC code expires in a couple of days, the day before the new phone is due to arrive.
Furthermore, after reading deeper into the Number Porting terms and conditions on the dial a phone website, it appears you can't port a number from Orange to Orange.
So, i'm looking for some advice as to my best course of action...
Is it possible to use the PAC code to port my current number to an o2 payg sim in advance of my new handset arriving, then porting it from o2 payg sim to the new orange phone?
This seems logical in my head as it would both prevent another rolling month being charged on my current contract and also enable the number to be ported from Orange as it will be from another network (o2)
Will this work? Is there another/better option?
Many thanks in advance for any help/replies

Thanks for the reply! Would I have to top up the PAYG sim by the minimum amount in order to 'activate' it to do this?
Or would it work without doing so?
£10 or so is not the end of the world, but as I have no use for a topped up PAYG sim, i'd like to avoid doing so if possible..0 -
Sorry I don't know, but guess you probably would have to top up. Minimum top up on an Asda sim is £5.0

You may be stuck on the PAYG Sim for a few days as they have 48 hours to send you the PAC (usually a lot quicker though) and then it typically takes up to 24 hours for it to transfer. There isn't really another way to do it though since Orange (in my experience) won't just transfer the number internally for you.0

Yes, the SIM needs to be active in order for any PAC to work. The existing number is replaced with the one you want to keep. However, a same network transfer is called a Migration, and some folk find the port out-port in trick fails as the network can spot it and refuse on the basis any offer was for a new connection NOT someone upgrading.
If they refuse, you may need to keep the PAYG SIM active for 12 months before trying again.0
