It says £200 to spend, you can't spend a pair of shorts.

I'm holding off replying to them for now (they've given me 2 weeks to reply, before they pass the prize on to someone else) - I have emailed Edwin Mutton at the IPM to see what he advises I should do.

I cannot see how it can be anything apart from £200 to spend on their site (unless they are throwing the shorts in on top of the £200)

Have you had any contact with them to politely say the shorts were not the prize on offer and it should be £200 to spend on their site?

Could just be a simple mistake they correct with one e-mail (before they get a public flogging).

That's exactly why I was contacting Edwin, not for a 'public flogging' but because I want advise on the best way to proceed. As it happens, Edwin has suggested I accept the shorts and then he will investigate further.

I'm writing a polite email to accept the shorts and express my disappointment over the confusion.

Accept the shorts and ask how you go about ordering the remaining £130 worth of stuff.

    UPDATE:
I contacted both the company and Edwin Mutton regarding this. I have heard nothing at all from the company (they didn't even reply to my email or send the shorts they claimed I had won originally...).

Edwin Mutton passed the details onto the ASA who have investigated the matter. The company have claimed that the £200 was the first place prize and the second place prize was the item of clothing that the entrant pinned. They acknowledged that this was not made clear in the ad (....in fact it wasn't mentioned anywhere)!

They have offered to give me £200 to spend as an apology for not having communicated the prize clearly to me.

I'm pleased to have their offer (I've yet to receive the prize though), I am disappointed that I had to go through the ASA to resolve this..and that they still maintain I was a second place winner... when that was not mentioned anywhere. They have gone from a company that I held in high esteem to one that (after I have received my prize) I no longer wish to have any dealings with. :(:(:(

Glad to see things are looking positive. I don't understand how they say that you won the second prize, when the screenshot that you posted in your first post says there will be one winner.
