Frustrating that this was never updated - I'd have been keen to know what happened. I'm having a similar issue. Although I certainly wasn't silly enough to cash a cheque I knew wasn't intended for me, I am trying to get a CIFAS marker removed and wondering how long it will take...0

Have you asked Experian/Equifax how long it will take ?0 -
I have read that CIFAS markers stay on your files for 13 months, if this is true or not I don't know, but I have read it more than once, these markers shouldn't be the end of the world though as I have also read that credit applications cannot be declined because of one, I am guessing it would get referred and then they would ask more questions, and then depending how serious etc it was they would then decline or accept you, but they cannot decline you point blank because of one.0

The marker isn't on my Experian or Equifax report as it is (very likely) a cat 06 misuse of facility marker. I know which bank added it, but they won't admit that they've added anything until I get the SAR report from CIFAS. Once I get that, I'm hoping I can quickly get the bank to see they've added it in error. My situation is different (see my thread in the budget - I can't post links) but I am looking through old posts to see if anyone has successfully had these removed relatively quickly. I have a mortgage application hanging in the balance and so stressed!0 -

It changed from 13 months to 6 years a couple of years ago.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
