On my new house, I had to do literally everything, the only things that didn't need doing was the brick walls, and for some reason the loft dulux window was new.

I had to redo the roof, windows, replastered everywhere, new kitchen, bathroom, new carpets, repainted everywhere, new blinds, curtains, new door front and back, new internal doors, a new false wall, new on suite, new boiler and electricd etc.

Admittedly, I payed quite a bit under the asking prices for the area, but no house is going to be perfect, work always needs doing. What you are explaining doesn't sound that major.

have planted a few herbs to eat, and loads of lavender, what do bees like? I want to attract bees.

Dont really see honey bees round here but the bumbles go bonkers for Foxgloves and Cardoons. Get some nasturtiums going - they will provide flowers and food till the first frost.

Also budlieas are great for bees and butterflies although they dont flower for very long.

Try and get a decent heritage apple tree. Even if your garden is tiny, you can get a small enough tree to fit. And it will not only feed the bees in spring, it will feed you with apples for as long as you own it.

The words mountain and mole hill spring to mind!

The house sounds fine and minor work to be done. You may not have viewed it yourself before buying, but you surely looked up the location?

What does your boyfriend feel about it?

You seem to be throwing your toys out the pram because it isn't as you pictured it.

Ps -I'm currently living in a house with no sink, hob or oven, and all washing up has to be done in the bathroom upstairs!
I can't imagine no washing machine so you have my sympathy.
To the OP, if she is telling the boyfriend what she is posting on here he probably feel's like total poo.
No advice on how to replace a door or paint a wall but on the relationship front I would suggest she watch what she says if she ever wants him to do anything for her again.
  • Wonder if the OP has actually read this thread again over past day or so? Some less than kind words on here bearing in mind she is a young FTB... Personally, I think she deserves credit for saving so hard and getting on to the housing ladder in the first place at such a relatively young age :)

However, I agree with overall sentiment: so long as house is fine structurally & roof ok, anything else can be overcome eventually.

To the OP: ignore the slightly smug and unnecessary criticism on this thread and take heart from what others have achieved... I hope with time your feelings change and you post again on here saying that it has all worked out for you :)
