SMART Parking Asda Car Park Fine

I parked in an Asda car park, I nipped in - was probably 20 minutes tops. I came back to find a parking fine on my car from SMART parking. I’ve parked in this car park everytime I’ve been in Asda and never had a problem before!!

If paid within 14 days this is £40, if not then £70!!

I’ve heard a few stories about private parking companies, and you not actually having to pay them - can anybody advise me please?

I’m currently saving up for a mortgage, so don’t want to risk anything negative going on my credit file etc, so if any doubt I will have to just pay it.

I noticed on the ticket you can pay online, I’ve just had a quick look and there is an option to appeal a parking charge – can I do this??

Thanks
J

  • Take some time to do a bit of research. Loads of threads here about ASDA and (not so) Smart.

Read, learn, then appeal, with the intention of taking it to POPLA.

Don't be daft, a scam like this doesn't affect your credit rating, LOL! 'Can you appeal a scam'? OF COURSE YOU CAN/WILL. Only mugs pay these.

As posted every day on here, what to do first is this:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/62827554#Comment_62827554

and at the same time, complain to whoever owns/runs the car park as well, of course:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/62837690#Comment_62837690

If the retailer/store manager won't cancel the fake PCN then send your first challenge (as per the first link, not implying who was driving) then start reading up on threads about strong POPLA appeals. There are loads of examples on the forum and if you aren't sure what POPLA is about you haven't yet read enough current similar threads. Let us know when you have your POPLA code and show us your draft appeal at that second stage.

You won't be paying this of course. You do realise it's not a parking ticket? Stop looking 'how to pay'!!!!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hi there, you can nip this in the bud very swiftly without POPLA.. Smart Parking or TCP as they were known lease land at asda to operate the disabled & mother & child parking although it's not actually enforceable as it is not public highway.....appeal nothing.......pay nothing.......please see my thread on CAG (Consumer Action Group.)

In the search box on there, type TCP / Roxburghe send cheque and apologise...... You will see my letters to TCP in full... Enjoy!
  • Ok so ignored the ticket and have now had a letter saying I've got 14 days to pay.

I'm tempted to just pay it, really can't risk anything going on my credit history.

So have you contacted them? Have you had a popla verification code? And as Smart Parking have never ever ever ever been to court they cannot affect your credit history, you do realise its got to court you lose, and refuse to pay the judgement within 28 days for a CCJ to be registered, don't you?

Now as Smart have not taken anyone there, how do you think its going to do anything detrimental to your credit scores ?

You should have put everything back in the basket and taken it straight back, ask for the manager and demand a refund as you now have to pay this ticket the trolley boy put on your car.
When he lied it has nothing to do with him, just say, dont care, refund the shopping please and hold your guns.
    Be happy...;)

If you can't be bothered to read the helpful posts others have made perhaps you should just pay the fine ;)

Ahem...there is no effect on your credit rating.

What happened when you complained assertively about it to the Asda Store Manager? Still can - look:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4766249

Please don't come back saying the person at the CS desk told you Asda 'don't own the car park'. Research it first by reading any other Asda thread, their staff always say that - and it's a lie because Smart are specifically Asda's agent. Your complaint will be to the Store Manager, with receipts, very assertive but polite and NOT taking 'we don't own the car park' for an answer.

Or would you rather just pay a scam? Can I have £70 as well please?

  • Just to let people know, I sent an appeal with quotes I found on posts, and they emailed me to say they had cancelled it!
