    Are the T2 not still made in Brazil and imported to the UK? seen a 13 plate the other day.

    Ah that makes sense, I tend to think of them as a relic of the past and their drive quality accordingly quirky! We had a splitty, or at least my grandparents did when I was a child - a late 50s or early 60s model which my grandad converted to a camper - I recall it being very slow and prone to the odd mechanical hiccup.

    The drive quality of the later front engined vans is, I think, far superior. Our T4 is a 2.5TDi and it drives like a car, not a bus, and the performance and higher driving position is really good.

    T2s are somewhat basic, really, and I don't think they could compare with modern vehicles from a drive quality perspective.

    we recently purchased a VW T2,we had problems driving it.Its as though the steering doesn't correspond with the wheels,

    What you are experiencing is the result of a change of driving position, relative to the [front] wheels of the vehicle.

    You get used to it eventually.

    Bus drivers can experience the same problems when moving over from a lorry.

    And lorry drivers can experience similar problems when driving a vehicle where the seat is very much higher up than they are used to. [width issues, perceptions, etc.]
    No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • thanks for all the replies,the vw is imported from Brazil.Its 3 years old next February.Its in a garage as I type having decent tyres fitted as it had budget ones on.This could be one of the reasons we were slipping and sliding around in the heavy rain.Will wait and see if it makes a difference,will look for a better garage to check out steering if new tyres dont make a difference.I will just have to see if i get used to driving it.thanks again.

    re-the tyres?

    Did you fit proper light commercial tyres? [As distinct from car tyres?}

    I would check the tyre pressures as well?

    Learn to accelerate out of corners..with that rear engine/drive, it'll squat like a dragster. [well, mine used to]

    So many VW van owners make the mistake of fitting car tyres rather than commercially rated tyres........even more I think make the mistake of fitting car alloys / tyre combinations and wonder why the wheels crack or performance suffers. Hopefully OP has bought decent commercial tyres like Continental Vancos or similar , now.

    hi,we have had 4 uni-royal tyres fitted,he drove the short distance to the ramp and said the steering was faulty.When it was up on the ramp he said a new steering rack had been fitted and was either faulty or needs adjusting,so it is booked into another garage that i trust tomorrow.fingers crossed its sorted out.Took a week off work to enjoy it and not been able to drive it.
