I am no great shakes at housework, but I am sure that I would not have allowed lime scale to build up to a thickness of 1cm. Easiest way to remove the water from the bowl is with a large sponge.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Yes you are right. Changing household cleaning routine to prevent this in the first place..

To try to be more environmentally friendly we use the let it mellow system when it comes to flushing, unfortunately this also increases the build up of lime scale and increases our limescale toilet cleaner and bleach cost. Whilst reducing our metered water consumption cost it unfortunately increases our shopping bill :(

Supermarket ownbrand cola is a cheap source of acid (phosphoric acid) that I usually use - I expect it would work out cheaper than vinegar.

You can (depending on the toilet) force a lot of the water down the pan with a plunger. I pour the cola into what's left without bothering to get the last of the water out.

Not sure how long/how many times it will take to dissolve that much limescale though.

bottle of cocacola over night will usually get rid of most if not all of stubborn limescale. We moved into a place that had been empty for months, I put coke down the loo overnight & they came up sparkling.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

    Lid off the cistern.
    Flush it.
    Hold the ballcock down.
    Fill it with Rola Cola.
Flush and leave it for as long as possible.

Trust me - I used to have student lets.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Not sure if it is still available over the counter from chemists but I used to re-furb stores all over the country and one of my first jobs would be to clean the toilets and kitchen before I,or any of my workmates had to use them. I used to get a bottle of Spirits of Salts and pour it down the loo. Will shift anything.Don't inhale any fumes or get it on your skin. Always amazed me the state that staff would let their kitchens and toilets get in but no-one likes to clean after someone else. Not unusual to find a sink full of coffee cups/mugs soaking in filthy water.
