Cannot get Experian Statutory report due to incorrect address

Has anyone else had this issue - how did you go around it?

I was declined a mortgage due to a failed credit check... So, I decided to get my Experian £2 Statutory report. Unfortunately, it will not find my address and always suggests the wrong one with the only option being to confirm or go back.

How do I get out of this loop? I'm assuming this error probably caused part of the problem with my credit check issue on the mortgage as well.

The address I am trying to use is my valid one and is in the PAF...the one they suggest does not even exist!

Do you live in a flat? It seems that many flat owners/renters on here have problems with credit ratings agencies getting their addresses wrong.
Have you tried using the Royal Mail's postcode checker to see what the 'official' layout of your address is?

Yes I live in a flat - the credit agency keeps going to some house address on the same road that is different by one letter in the post code.

However, when I put my correct address into the Royal Mail PAF checker it does find it, so not sure why Experian is unable to do the same.

That's strange - I've had a myriad of problems with the credit agencies and the address of my flat but they did at least manage to find it initially.

You could try applying by post - according to their website it only takes 2 days longer than getting the passkey for the online version. Then if there are problems with your address they will probably contact you for verfication

I have this problem all the time and I suspect is why I am sometimes declined for credit. No one seems to be able to decide whether my flat and property name consists of a number, letter, name or combination of all three. The credit cards I have all each have their own way of listing my address, the letting agent got it wrong, I missed my council tax because they couldn't find the address, and even post I get is frequently late or lost. It's an absolute *&^%ing nightmare, so I feel your frustration but can suggest there's not a whole lot you might be able to do except trying different combinations of your address.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

    Thanks for the replies. :)

I've tried every combo and no matter what, Experian only finds the wrong address. So odd since I've lived here for years and the Postal Address File is correct - don't they check it?

Guess I'll try the paper method...

Sorry to hear about your difficulties getting an Experian report. We use the PAF file and the electoral roll to target addresses so I'm guessing these aren't matching up. If you'd like to drop us an email with details we'll look into it for you.

Thank you, James, for your assistance. Seems I should be getting my paper copy soon - look forward to seeing if my address is correct. :)

James, btw as a permanent resident with ILR but obviously not on Electoral Roll is there anything I can do to make it easier?
  • Sorry for bumping this, but it seems the best way.

I STILL cannot get this resolved. Even after getting them to send me my report manually (to the correct address), the system shows the wrong post code for me so I cannot request a statutory report online.

Has anyone ever been successful? I can't even open bank accounts at some banks due to this error!
