Hope this may help other people -

My BT Broadband has been fine at 1meg for months now last couple of days went very sloooow, down to around 300bps at one stage, I checked for all virus
attacks and nothing new,checked all connections and all fine - got me stumped to be honest, then rang nice lady at Broadband faults, she said line tested fine and couldnt understand it, she then said finally - do you have a spare filter? i said yes, she said change it over, so i put new filter on phone/broadband socket and hey presto shot back instantly to around 1.4meg wow! dont know why,neither did she but it works and im happy s0-if yours suffers loss of speed try this - hope it helps some people......
