    I have driven over 400,000 miles and have never once had an engine problem with any of my cars... many of which have been old and high mileage (all petrols). And I've used supermarket fuels wherever convenient.

    If this is no longer possible with CR diesels, then said engines are garbage. End of story.

    Seriously though, have you been to look at the latest generations of the two cars? I think you may be surprised at how much they've come on.
