Thanks for that. It is reassuring to know that my spreadsheet will at some stage turn from red to green.

When I started, the majority of my jobs were with RA and MF; in my opinion, easily the worst payers out there. However, I needed the experience so I took the jobs.

Over time, you get more experienced and, perhaps, venture into some of the other visit types (audio/video) and you suddenly find your income has increased substantially.

For me, I had to venture further afield and started doing 7 or 8 jobs in some of the bigger towns. I now rarely do any RA or MF visits as, on paper, unless I can include them with other better paying jobs, I would be making a loss, and possibly reducing my tax bill, which no doubt would upset the tax man :(

Good luck and good success with MSing, I too took early retirement and do this as a way of keeping me active whilst making a little money on the side.
  • Hello everyone

I have just started mystery shopping and am really enjoying it. In the past month I've had several meals and even a fancy bra! I've got some car dealership visits this week which I'm worried about as I've not done them before.

Does anyone have any advice? Eg back story, reason for not purchasing after leading them on for ages, reason I want that car and spec in particular?

    Thanks, Rachael

I normally say I want to drive a few cars before deciding which one. So if I am mystery shopping a Ford Fiesta I might say that I am going to the Vauxhall dealership to see the Astra. They usually still try to get me to commit, but I find they are understanding when I stick to my guns and say that its a big purchase so I want to make sure its the right one.

Sometimes I have said that I want to chat it over with my husband first.

They usually then offer to ring me in a couple of days.

Hi Rachael, glad you're enjoying MSing :) With regards to the car visits, I've done a few of these and I'm sometimes surprised at the spec I've had to shop, some of them have been ridiculous. That said, I've just put my head down and shopped the spec. As for not purchasing, I've always had an alternative, similar priced car in my mind and tell the salesman that I'm going to look at that one too. That way I can leave the showroom relatively easily and, when/should they call back, I tell them I've decided on the other car.

Hope that helps and good luck :)

You give them your real phone number?
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

I have a completely separate MS mobile phone now, after falling foul to my first round of car visits, giving them my actual mobile number, and receiving umpteen phone calls :o

Ok - what can you buy for a £1.00 in a large computer store..

    Answers on a post card...

I ended up buying batteries - the cheapest being £2.80. Luckily I was there for two other jobs ( different agencies) so it was worth while to do. (They just wanted a 'snap' and brochure)

I shall watch for that in the future - methinks..
