only ever occurred to me before in relation to computers but how do you get rid of all your data so ppl can't recover it if you sell or recycle it?

but that still leaves data recoverable doesn't it? after doing that on a computer before selling you are advised to 'wipe' the free space thats created after resetting

I would have thought the new owner would need to know your apple/google account details and password to recover your data.

And people don't buy smartphones to commit 'cyber crime' not that there's much that can be done with the majority of data on a phone anyway.

So you banking app just lets you straight into the account?
Emails are wiped when you reset the phones data.
Cyber crime / terrorism is done with old phones, not new smart phones.

You will be fine with a factory reset.
Smart phones are much better than PC's at wiping data.
Even above average joe wouldn't be able to get much off the phone, which is still very unlikely.
