Nothing smelly or messy, think of the other passengers!

Pastries will make masses of crumbs, will you be able to contain/clean up the mess? Eggs may be a little whiffy. Great idea though, especially the Bucks Fizz :D

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone! I'm especially like the Bucks Fizz idea. Silly question I know, I don't travel on trains much, is it ok to drink alcohol on them? I thought there was a ban brought in or was that just on the Under Ground in London?

I think I'll go for croissants, some miniature jams, a bit of cheese and ham, followed by some fresh fruit all washed down with coffee and Bucks Fizz. I'm looking forward to it already!

Have you booked seats? If not, travelling at that time of morning you may find it's standing room only.

Yes we've booked seats, first class coming home but unfortunately it was full on the journey down so we're just standard class. It's quite sad but it's been that long since I've been on a train I'm actually quite excited! :j

Its just the underground that you can't take alcohol on. The train to london is fine and most serve alcohol but much cheaper to take your own.

Think how you can manage/balance half the stuff others have suggested, bearing in mind you might be doing it on your knees.

I'd go for something simple, some pre-made sandwiches wrapped in clingfilm or foil - no stinky hard boiled eggs as you'll make the whole carriage pong of f4rts.

Make some boiled fruit cake, or flapjacks.

have you also thought about what the trains are like at that time i know from here on a train to london at 7.30 am there is no way that you are getting a seat let alone 2 is it going to be practical to eat something on a really crowded train?

We've booked the seats already so should someone have decided to kindly keep them warm for us I shall politely thank them and ask them to move on, failing that I'll hit them with a croissant!

You should be fine for your brekkie then...and enjoy 1st class coming home - do you get drinks or a sandwich on your home-bound rail operator?
