    Keystone's advice is probably best.

    Otherwise buy a chocolate block (£1) from Maplin and sort it out. It's (probably) low voltage so not dangerous. Cover the whole lot in electrical tape. Choc blocks aren't the best way, but it sounds like you need the easiest way.

    Soldering is actually quite weak/brittle so a poor way to connect wires- I had to fix a pair of such joints only last week. (Not using a choc block I hasten to add!)
