Fix the power cable?? Maybe you need to give some more detail if your problem is non-trivial.

Without any further information all I can say is, rejoin the power cable.

The cable will most-likely be a low power DC cable from the power unit to the phone base. It may be a twin core cable.

When you re-join it, make sure you observe the correct polarity. You can check this as one of the cores will have a marking on the sheath along it's length.

If it's a low voltage AC power supply, you don't need to worry about polarity.

Some photos of the break and power supply markings would be useful.

Ok i have attached two pictures, it's just an electric cord that has been cut. I am rubbish with DIY so would be better for me to go out and buy a new adapter if that is possible?

This is a link to the phone if that is any use http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CGwQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2FGigaset-Single-Cordless-Answer-Machine%2Fdp%2FB004UPL11I&ei=S8YIUvn6IrSP7AbwhYGwBQ&usg=AFQjCNHBHI-nzDEPoV99NQAdZRYLuGCSpw&sig2=SKrw0h3dFLw3gIwm-KSRyw&bvm=bv.50500085,d.d2k

Very straightforward to repair so long as you have not touched the two wires on the power supply side and possibly blown an internal fuse!

Do you have a multimeter? Soldering iron?

Separate the two cores at the break on both sides. One of the cores should have a marking on the sheath as I mentioned above. Twist/solder the matching wires together and tape them up using electrical tape.

If you re-join the wires staggered, there is less chance of a possible short-circuit in the future i.e. one join offset from the other.

Edit: I think I can vaguely see a broken white line marking on one of the cores?

One of these will probably sort you out

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lloytron-300mA-Unregulated-AC-DC-Powwer-Adapter-3-4-5-6-7-5-9-12-Multi-Voltage-/170814800108

Meanwhile you should be able to recharge the batteries in any battery charger ... or just use disposables :)

A universal adaptor will most likely not be suitable as the output from phone base power supplies is a specific voltage not one of the standard selectable ones.

Also, the output is usually regulated whereas the universal one above is unregulated.

It's best to try and repair/replace the exisiting one as a universal one may damage the base unit.

If the damaged power supply is for the base unit and not one of the handset chargers, the OP will not be able to use the cordless phone system at all! Regardless of whether the batteries are charged in an external charger.

  • If the DSL light is stable then it means your telephone line is working but if your phone is not getting charged due to cable power cut then simply go to market and buy new cable.
