I suspect that MBNA are happy for you you and 'davidmaiden18183' to move to Virgin as you don't spend much/anything. Looks like cherry picking.

I think a similar thing happened when MBNA sold accounts to Santander a few years back.

Add me to the list. I did use my card quite a lot a couple of years back but not very much recently.

They are moving me to Virgin. Looks like MBNA only want to keep the 'good' customers. Wonder if Virgin are aware of this practice?

I'm being moved to MBNA, my card usage as follows.

Apr 2009, transfer £3500 from Egg card under 0% for 16 months, paid off before 0% finished.

Afterwards sometime in 2010, got a 0% for 12 months purchase offer, spent about £2k and paid off before 0% run out in 2011.

Didn't used again until November 2012, when, through an offer, did a money transfer of £3000 at 0% for 12 months and paid it off in 8 or 9 months.

So in effect for the past 4.5 years I have borrowed roughly £8.5k off Virgin and they have made about £200 - £250 out of me, by way of fees. A bargain for me, considering in Apr 2009, I was paying Egg £70 a month in interest alone and had no chance to clear the card for 2 years or more, because of it.

One of the reason, I stayed with them and continued to use the card, is because of their repeat offers, looks like MBNA are continuing the trend.

Possibly like everyone else, with the letter informing me of the change, they have offered me 0% on Balance transfers or money transfer until my Dec 2014 statement, so basically 16 months for either 3.5% (BT fee) or 4% (money transfer fee).

So I'm quite happy. :T

Hi, I have received a letter today saying my card will be changed to MBNA.

Looking at Virgin Money website they still providing credit cards issued by MBNA?

My wife has Virgin Atlantic card - Anyone know if this card will remain with MBNA or transferred over to Virgin?

i wouldn't worry about it. whether being a Virgin-backed cardholder turns out to be better/worse remains to be seen. at least, between you, you have hedged your bets. & MBNA have been very handy for me over the years....long may they carry on as they are.

I also had the letter recently informing me of a change of card from Virgin to MNBA, which also offered the new MNBA 0% balance transfer to December 2014. I was fuming when I saw the offer, because several days ago I took up the Virgin offer for a large balance transfer for 0% to July 2014. They must have known when I took up the Virgin offer that my account was changing soon to MNBA which would have a better offer. So I called up and complained, but after escalating my complaint to a customer services manager, they transferred my new balance transfer to the new MNBA 0% rate to December 2014. Initially they said they couldn't do it because I took up the offer that was available to me at the time. I stood my ground and said that wasn't fair, if they new I'd be moving to a new card with a better rate within days.... I told them that it stands to reason if I had of known that I was going to be transferred to a new card account I would have waited a couple of days for the better balance transfer offer... I said if they should give me the extra 6 months as a courtesy and gesture that I'd not been informed that a better rate would be on offer in days... They conceded - result for me an extra 6 months on 0%. It pays to be persistent, because they tried to fob me off with it couldn't be done, when in fact it could and was automatic and on my account in minutes! Happy days. :j

I asked the question recently when calling MBNA and they advised that Virgin Atlantic cards will continue to be provided by MBNA.

This might tie in with the conspiracy theory that MBNA will be retaining the higher spend cards and hiving of the dross to Virgin themselves :rotfl:

I haven’t seen any mention in the previous posts that with the arrival of the new MBNA card we also get a new 16 digit number, this is most inconvenient for me and I am sure it will be for many others, there will many situations where various regular or irregular payment accounts have been set up where acredit card is used, PayPal for example.
Payments could be missed and penalties incurred.

Eventually there will be a Virgin's own card, the Virgin Money credit card, will this have the current 16 digit number?
