Better to eat your fruit and veg rather than synthetic foodstuffs. If you have health in mind, have you considered a vegan diet for a while? Try reading the book "Skinny B*tch" for inspiration.

Quorn is an excellent low-fat source of protein, and the OP doesn't say she wants to be a vegetarian or vegan, simply wants to cuts down on fat.

Tesco's own veggie sausages are much nicer than Quorn's, they are in the green bags in the freezer

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about those - they are very tasty. I've added some to my shopping list.

I use the mince and chicken pieces sometimes, they are quite good as a now and again alternative.

How about soya chunks or mince?

Then there are other vegetarian or low fat products, also use lots of fresh fruit & vegetables to bulk up your meals or as a low fat meat substitute.

Personally don't want to eat Quorn now I know mycoprotein is soil mould fed on glucose and vitamins in silos and nowt to do with mushrooms.

But Lidl has escalopes etc on offer from 08/08/13
  • I've gotta agree with Edwardia, when I found out what it was it was offputting. Soya mince is what we use. Also doesn't help living 3 miles from the quorn factory. My family refuse to eat it as the smell from the factory is...er... exotic to say the least. (close the car windows when you drive past!)

I used to love quorn but over time all my immediate family developed a nasty intolerance to it and stopped buying it, I thought I was fine but the last couple of times I had quorn before becoming vegan I had the worst diarrhoea and stomach cramping in my life :( the fact it is a mould grown in vats doesn't concern me so much, nutritional yeast is produced in a very similar way and is a fantastic food product, but it's just I can't tolerate it and apparently this is incredibly common. Thanks for the links to the Holland and Barrett stuff, those prices are very competitive (I try not to overdo the soya as I don't tolerate it too well either but occasionally it's a good standby) xx

I think you are missing V4M's point.... it was, to what I read, that a vegan diet is (cholesterol free) naturally lower in fat and could be healthier than having Quorn, if the OP was giving up meat anyway and looking for an alternative.

Nothing against Quorn, had it a lot in the past as a veggie. I eat more pulses/veg based meals now though. There's also (organic) tofu as an alternative which I've had more this year, Dragonfly products are good, not sure how the fat content compares though.

OP - Quorn do a cookbook if you are looking for inspiration for recipes too, it's quite good.

What is the ingredient that causes the problems, any idea??

You're lucky - it makes me violently sick within 2 hours, which doesn't subside until every last molecule has been ejected.
