Flight delay mechanical problem

in Flight delay compensation
Would we be covered for compensation when two years ago our flight from gat wick to Egypt was delayed for 9 hours because of a faulty part on the plane? Monarch ended up getting us another plane and gave us £5 each to buy a drink and sandwich at the airport?

    If you were to read some of the posts on this forum you would not need to ask this question, though a little more information would have been useful
