Strange experience with TT salesman

I was stopped in the street by a TT salesman with a TT display, offering a cheaper deal than my nearly finished O2 contract at £23 a month BB line and free calls.
He offered a faster speed, free calls including 0845 and line rental at £18 a month.
He wanted me to sign up but I said I wanted to compare first. He said ok I have plenty of time to cancel if I sign. He rang TT and passed the phone to me to answer a few questions but had primed me to agree to just say yes to the contract. I asked them to confirm I could cancel but this caused a problem and he had to get back on to them and explain why I had not just said yes.
The call went on for so long, and I was now suspicious so I just walked away.
What was that about?

It was a freelance agent on commission only. No sales, no income.
How can £18 per month line rental be a good deal?
The best deal you'll get with TT is online, maybe via a cashback site. Why give the commission away?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Be careful as you can often end up with a new TT account and still pay your existing TT account .

The £18 was for BB as well.
I didn't sign anything so am ok.0 -
As an O2 customer, the best deal you would probably get is from Sky0
